dale#1 1
Last week someone told me it was dumping (this was in Iwate). Turns out there was 5cm of new snow. Now, that doesn't really sound like a dump to me. I'd say you'd need at least 20-30cm results to get the dump status. What do you think?
muikabochi 208
5cm! When it's dumping here, we can get 5cm in 10 minutes. I don't think we have had a proper dump here this season yet. A dump to me is when it is really, er, dumping down relentlessly and the snow is piling up. On those days you'll easy get 30-40 maybe more cm. Let's dump.
snosurf 0
let's not get into the toilet humour here.... But with regards to snow, i'd say dumping doesn't refer to the accumulated quantity of a snowfall but rather it is in reference to the rate of actual snow fall. Ie there are many fat snowflakes and it goes on for quite a while. On the flipside, if you wake up and say 'man it dumped last night, look outside' then this would be more directed at snow quantity. To which i'd agree 20-30cm is a dump.
muikabochi 208
At least. At the moment it is "dumping" with rain. Again.
soubriquet 0
We've had rain today, but sleet now, turning to snow. There's snow on the car. It'll be white tomorrow
muikabochi 208
Don't know whats going on here. Its Dec 24th?! No snow! I'm just annoyed that I can't go snowboarding.
thursday 1
Dumping is about 30cm. About a foot all over the place. Nice.....
soubriquet 0
No overnight dump, but it's snowing in town. Looking good for the mountains.
Mantas 3
How long is a piece of string??? One persons dump might be 5 cm. Anothers might be 90 cm. I think you can say it's 'dumping' when you get it pilling up on your shoulders while you wait in the lift line, even if it only 'dumps' for 10 mins.
DumbStick 13
To me 5cm is in no way a dump. Now, 50cm is.
ausi ski bum 1
A dump is at least 50 cm in a 24 hour period anything less is just snowing
keba 0
A dump in Falls must be close to 5cm, ausi...

ausi ski bum 1
I have seen 80cm plus at Falls in a 24 hour period, this year 30 would have been nice
indosnm 0
I'm sure ya have but how often? I consider a dump anything from 25cm + (but I'm not fussy if it's only 20cm... I'll still go out)
keba 0
30cm? You mean under the snowmakers, don't you? This year any snow would have been nice! We just had a baby, so had to forego the whole southern winter. Kept my eye on the reports, though, which made me feel better knowing that everyone else was missing out too
skidaisuki 0
My definition of DUMP is what all of the Honshu resorts currently need in order to be fully operational, for top to bottom skiing
lin 0
That is a good current definition!
veronica 2
Does the heavy rain we have now count as a "dump"? I can't believe I'm worried about the snow conditions in early January. I'm not going in rain or terrible conditions though.
lin 0
From the sound of things it sounds pretty miserable right now. Come on snow, get falling will you!!!
where's the snow? 0
Anything less than a decent depth of new snow is surely not a dump. It needs to be moved away by a dumper. Maybe at the very least 10cm.
ausi ski bum 1
Wow after a really bad Aussie Season all I need is for a bad one in Japan as well, I am there Jan 6 so I hope things change
