window-cleaner 0
If you could only choose between early December or mid-April for a ski trip to Japan, which would you choose? Thanks!
soubriquet 0
No contest. Early December there's a real risk nothing will be open. Mid-April is late, but you can guarantee some action somewhere.
Ocean11 0
I'd choose to stay where I am and plan things better another year. Mid-April Japanese snow is hardly worth traveling 2 hours in a car for, let alone a good many more hours in an aeroplane.
mattlucas 0
If you are into backcountry skiing then April/May is the best of any month But if it's resort you're after both those months will be shite
frannyo 2
Agree with the above, do not make a long trip for those conditions if you plan to be on resorts.
thursday 1
I've done both December and April in Hokkaido. No problem with the snow there, only blizzard conditions in Dec and wet stuff in April. Quit your job/school, and do both. Also throw a trip in between, say Feb.
lin 0
There may be no problems with the snow but the important point here is - is it worth a very long trip from overseas to get there? I would say most definitely no. (Unless you have too much money and too much time!)
NoFakie 45
You can come and clean my windows if you like! I'll supply the ladder.

rach 1
I find it hard to drum up the enthusiasm for resort snow in April, when a fairly long trip is involved. And I'm in Japan! (Well I am usually, not right now!)
pie-eater 207
I find the amount of airmiles they give you on economy to be very poor. Hardly worth a huge trip for crappy snow.
fukdane 2
How many air miles would you get for the trip?
snosurf 0
December for hokkaido April for anywhere else. It's been said but i'll say it again: At least there'll be something white to slide around on in April, there's no guarantee of that in December. There's no guarantee of that in April either, but you'd be VERY unlucky if you couldn't find something in April (it would be unheard of).
scouser 4
It would depend on how much cash I had. But if not a ton, I might give it a miss. December you could be well lucky - but you could also be unlucky. April you pretty much know what it would be like.

thursday 1
I'm still waiting for prices for some Niseko places for December, the wait is killing me.
dale#1 1
Flight prices? Are they on the way up with all the demand?
thursday 1
Yeeehah, I've got my prices from the hotel and have booked it. It took them 3 weeks to answer my email!!!!! And the flight is on mileage, Niseko, here I come, December that is.
skichic 0
So how about late December, as in 20th for a week?
xxx 2
Still risky - could be excellent, could be green/brown.
Rag-Doll 0
Skichic - if you're a mad off pister then it might be a bit early but if you're heading to Hokkaido to places like Kiroro then it is a pretty safe bet for decent groomer fun.
skichic 0
I'm heading to Furano, I'm used to Oz skiing, so I'm easily satisfied
