Thanks. So a kishu henkan gets me that discount then... that is good. That makes a fair bit of difference...

Hahaha! You do proof reading? Please tell me it's not in English?! I don't think I've ever seen a single post from you that doesn't have at least a good chunk of it that is incomprehensible.

4.7" and 5.5"

I am looking forward, as are many, to hearing how the original size is no longer optimal and big screens are daft.

Having said that, I would like a phone with a bigger screen myself, I don't enjoy fannying about with a tiny keyboard/screen.

That's ridiculously large.

I hear that a lot.

I will probably be going for the 5.5 and I think that will almost be 'too big'.

I didn't know there were 7" phones. That's just a bit smaller than the iPad mini!

Surely that's just a tablet that 'does phone stuff'?

Don't you feel a complete plonker sticking that up by your ear?

7"

Yep 6.5 inches or around that size.

It is the Sony Xperia Ultra Z, not to confuse it with the smaller Sony experia.

Is that still a phone? Which one is it?

That's ridiculously large.

Mine is just a whisker under 7, but I believe docomo actually has one that is crack on 7.

And no its cool to speak with my sized phone.

And no it is a phone, not a tablet, more like a phone that does tablet stuff.

OK daftness aside.

I see the new iPhone can be bought 'SIM free' on apple website. Well, it will be next week.

Does that mean that I can stick a card in when I'm overseas and use local carriers.

And how does it affect my au contract now?

Looks like you can buy that sim free version online and presumably you'll be able to use your current sim card from iphone 5, stick it in the new one and continue using.

Presuming you have paid off the cost of the iphone 5 hardware, it will just continue.

I think?

Not specifically iphone but I don't really understand this sim free thing.

Can someone explain it simply for a dunce like me?

:)

SIM free is when you buy a phone, without a contract from a phone company. You buy just the phone, no SIM card. At this point the phone is useless as a phone, until you put a SIM card in it can't connect to the network and make calls.

There are a number of reasons to do this,

1. You own the phone, so can move between phone companies if you get contract from the company that doesn't tie you to a fixed period.

2. The phones come unlocked, so can be used on different networks.

3. Reduces the monthly cost of your phone bill because you are not paying off the phone, although you do have to pay for the phone in one lump sum when buying it.

But presumably if I go overseas and use an overseas network, I can't use my usual phone number.

Can you just continue with a sim card from au (like I have now) and the charges remain the same?
