DumbStick 13
Hey I am considering getting an amazon kindle machine, just one thing not clear to me. Are there different 'stores' for regions? I had heard that it was linked in to the amazon.com site? Thanks..
scouser 4
I think you need a UK account/address/payment to be linked in to the UK store.
panhead_pete 27
I bought mine in Japan and have downloaded books there, Australia, Bali and in Europe. Didnt seem to be any difference when I did no matter where I was.
klingon 10
Pete, what amazon do you use? I presume always the same one? ie. always .com or always .co.uk Or are you flitting between accounts?
oblivion 5
Kindle can be registered to only 1 account at a time. So choose one and that's it. No crossover. So I presume pete registered one amazon account and uses that all the time. Thats good and the .com has the most books, but from time to time there are regional differences. You're just stuck then. panhead_pete 27
Pretty sure its the .com but have only loaded books up using the 3G or wireless so am guessing. ???? Have lost the charge lead so cant check..... sorry,
oblivion 5
Where did you buy it from pete? amazon.com?
2pints-mate 0
You can actually swap round I believe from .co.uk to .com and back, as long as you had the .com before you signed up for .co.uk. It's like regional restrictions on DVDs and Blu Ray etc...... a complete pain in the arse.
Curt 1
Recently seen one for the first time... very impressed, more than I thought I would be actually. That screen really doesn't look like a screen, well like a screen as we know it anyway.

gnarly-dude 1
Japan store defaults you to the .com store and you need a .com account to login.
muikabochi 208
Must admit, I was impressed with the look of the screen as well when I saw one recently. Even considering getting one and using that to read books.
panhead_pete 27
Muik you wont look back. The ability to use it in full sunlight really is awesome and that's where it is head and shoulders better then an iPad etc.
minus 1
It should be better than the ipad for reading books. That's what it is for. Reading books.
Scallywag 0
I love mine. It goes well with an ipad. ipad is great at lots of other things. Have both!
grungy-gonads 54
OK so now I have a kindle. I like gadgets, I like reading, I like buying stuff... sue me! Initial impressions - very cool. I have been able to download all my books I already bought onto it and indeed it is a nice size to read and the screen is fab. I got the leather cover with a light too. So this WILL be my mail reading device. Galaxy Tab is being marginalised to a backup carnavi role. Poor thing.
grungy-gonads 54
Oh yes, I have both .com and .co.uk amazon accounts, both same login details. I have been able to switch back and forth between the two. Books downloaded when I'm in one get put onto the kindle while in both accounts. Can't be in both at the same time though - need to switch. Not 100% ideal but painless.

KatyB 0
Here's a kindle-y question.... do you turn yours OFF? Or just let it sleep? I can't quite find a simple answer as to what is best for it.
Error404 0
I'm interested in one of these. Don't they get like mega-battery life or something due to once the "ink" being there it doesn't take any energy up. Or something. Perhaps you don't need to turn it fully off. I worry though that if I buy I end up buying tons of books on impulse. Too easy!
loaf of bread 0
The sleep screen stays on until you either wake it up or turn it off. Don't know how much energy it uses though.

Karnidge 2
I presume that you can use the same kindle downloaded books on there as the ipad? Unless you hit your limit, which seems to be 5 for most books.
grungy-gonads 54
Correct.
