Turned into a very fine day here with clear skies
All the higher mountains around here got a sprinkling of snow yesterday, nice to see! I guess Fuji san must be nice and white on top now but she hasn't made an appearance so can't confirm it!
All gone in the metropolitan area today. You'd never know it happened. There is still white up in the hills though.
Nice and chilly here bit frosty too.
JMA one-week forecast says snow in Southwest Hokkaido this coming Wednesday.
Just an FYI: JR offering shinkansen & liftix early season Kagura deal for 8,500 weekdays, 9,100 weekends. I think it's until 12/22.
already mentioned in this thread jim
aha! And I had price & date wrong. fixing
Been a touch of frost here the past couple of mornings, all the roof tops were white the past couple of mornings, looks like tonight will be much the same.
Making my first trip to Niseko/Hirafu, arriving on 8 December. Been monitoring the snow situation and seeing no snow so far. Should I be worried?
Calm down and enjoy the wait.
Niseko Now to see how it pans out the last number of years.
Thanks for the link, Nisoko. I'm calm.....
There's a bit of snow comng through to reasonably low levels over the next couple of days and it's looking like a pretty good system should hit from the 15th that hopefully will lay down a decent base to get things going.
laka, take some laksa to cook, 8 Dec 2009 wasn't swinging
Recently, although the Ace #2 and Hirafu Gondola have been running, the terrain below them has been inaccessible to mountain-goers. However, riders have been seen coming down the front-side all the way down to the Ace Quad. Not too sure whether they're ducking ropes or not, at this stage.
Niseko Village has opened up for the first time this season today, and according to reliable sources the case will be the same there; you will have to take the gondola back down the mountain.
Hopefully Niseko Now will be able to provide some good stoke soon.
The more snow in that the better!
The last 8 seasons on 8 Dec has averaged a lower mountain depth of 56cm and upper mountain 110cm. The upper mountain has aalways had skiable snow by then but the cover down low can be a bit sketchy depending on the year. It's definitely a bit early to be able to guarantee top to bottom skiable cover.
Thanks to all for the info. Keeping fingers crossed.
Was a very sharp frost here last night, it has been frosty every day for the past 5 or so days.
Hmm not really felt that cold here.
Tonight will be much the same I think, needed the ice scraper for my car windows this morning, was a thin layer of ice on the windows.
So, any more snow in Niseko?
Yeah we had some last night.
Good to hear /see.
Not that long now.
