All the higher mountains around here got a sprinkling of snow yesterday, nice to see! I guess Fuji san must be nice and white on top now but she hasn't made an appearance so can't confirm it!

There's a bit of snow comng through to reasonably low levels over the next couple of days and it's looking like a pretty good system should hit from the 15th that hopefully will lay down a decent base to get things going.

laka, take some laksa to cook, 8 Dec 2009 wasn't swinging

It continued to snow throughout yesterday, adding about another 15-20cm in the village since last report. Showers are expected at times today, remaining overcast as the day wears on. The current temperature is a modest -1 at the village level.

Recently, although the Ace #2 and Hirafu Gondola have been running, the terrain below them has been inaccessible to mountain-goers. However, riders have been seen coming down the front-side all the way down to the Ace Quad. Not too sure whether they're ducking ropes or not, at this stage.

Niseko Village has opened up for the first time this season today, and according to reliable sources the case will be the same there; you will have to take the gondola back down the mountain.

The last 8 seasons on 8 Dec has averaged a lower mountain depth of 56cm and upper mountain 110cm. The upper mountain has aalways had skiable snow by then but the cover down low can be a bit sketchy depending on the year. It's definitely a bit early to be able to guarantee top to bottom skiable cover.
