iiyamadude 6
I have been meaning to post these for ages, but this morning got round to it at last! There's a small musuem at the base of the Nozawa Onsen resort, and it looks something like this inside. Worth a visit if you are there I would say. (It's where the "i" mark is in the top right part of the snowjapan map here.

SKI 15
Nice pics iiyamadude. Haven't been in a long time. Love seeing all that old gear.
Ctrl-Z 0
Interesting love these! ....though not sure I'd actually like to use them!
sand 17
Thanks for the photos, will ceck it out sometime, but I'm not sure how happy the museum would be with so many pics being shown.
iiyamadude 6
Good point sand, I didn't think of that. I have taken some off and emailed SJ to ask them about this, perhaps they can ask the museum if they are ok with it or not. Thanks.
Slippery Jim 65
That museum is definitely worth dropping in if you're in Nozawa. Only problem with it is that it could kill an hour or more of your snow time! Best to save it for a day when conditions just aren't up to snuff.
SnowJapan Admin SnowJapan 178 Posted July 31, 2010 SnowJapan Admin Share Posted July 31, 2010 We have checked with the resort/museum directly and they are fine with this.

ILoveZao 8
Looks interesting thank you for sharing that. I would like to visit. Zao could do with something like that too.
r45 4
Is there a special reason this is in Nozawa or just a tourist thing that they made?
Slippery Jim 65
Well, Nozawa is one of several places that claim to be the ``birthplace'' of skiing in Japan. As I recall, Nozawa's claim is based on a visit by Hannes Schneider. I think Myoko says it had skiing earlier by some Austrian soldiers, and I believe Zao also makes a bid,
muikabochi 208
Joetsu in Niigata, just to the north of Myoko... not Myoko itself.
muikabochi 208
This next season is the 100th year anniversary of skiing being introduced to Japan, so there will be events and stuff.
RobBright 35
Awesome. Do they sell beer?
muikabochi 208
I would say very probably. Actually the hill that is famous for that first ski is really tiny right close to Joestu city. Tiny tiny place. There's a statue. And I'm sure you can find beer too.
shamone 0
Looks really interesting I love seeing all that old gear. Wonder what it was like to ride some of those wooden skis. Anyone had a go somewhere?
snowbender 3
Interesting to see but only needs 30 mins or so, you can do it for lunch.
snowbender 3
No beer sold though Rob...
cucumber-farmer 0
Check opening times before you go. We were disappointed once. But it is worth a quick shufty if you are at Nozawa.
