thursday 1
Yes, certainly one that the fat cat unions must lose. A strike in a recession, selfish selfish selfish.
2pints-mate 0
Quote: British Airways has stripped striking cabin crew of their discounted travel perks as a further four-day strike looms this weekend. Last night the airline wrote to all flight attendants who joined a three-day walkout on Saturday, informing them that they would not be paid for the days they failed to turn up for duty, and confirming that, as warned, their access to the staff travel scheme will be stopped from 14 April. Under the scheme, all cabin crew get 90% discounts on BA flights for themselves and family or friends – with many French and Spanish cabin crew relying on the programme for travelling to work. The email added that the concessions were not contractual and could be withdrawn summarily. "The decision to withdraw staff travel concessions in these circumstances has not been taken lightly. The industrial action in which you took part has severely impacted upon our operations and customers and we will, undoubtedly, suffer additional costs and further losses as a result. There is no right of appeal following this decision," said the email. Magnificent.
HelperElfMissy 42
who could have seen that coming? If you bite the hand that feeds, on occassion the feeding stops and you get booted out of the kennel. (bearing in mind there are two sides to the equation and the employer is supposed to look after the employee appropriately as well - say's she who is owed $10,000 by her employer). But from what I have seen BA is in the clear here.
big-will 7
They can't complain, though I'm sure they will. They were told quite clearly before that if they went on strike these perks would be taken away. Idiots.
BagOfCrisps 24
Funny. That really nasty sounding scouse Union boss is seething. What a complete wally he is. His remit seemsto be "cause trouble wherever possible". Bet he doesn't go on strike and/or lose his salary.
Tubby Beaver 209
would be quite funny to see Union staff go on strike!! Negotiating with themselves for a pay rise and not getting it!!
grungy-gonads 54
90% off flights is one hell of a perk. I wonder if one or two people are regretting being so thick right now. Will be interesting to see if the next 4 day strike goes ahead.
thursday 1
yes, that is one of the good ones. It's 90% off for yourself and a nominated partner. And if you break-up, you can nominate another partner.

BagOfCrisps 24
More promising news from Europe’s airline industry: According to the New York Times, the union representing British Airways’ 13,500 flight attendants said that talks with airline’s management this week had made “serious progress†toward resolving differences over wage cuts and changes to in-flight staffing, and put off plans for further strikes after two costly walkouts last month. thursday 1
serious? Great. Now lets wait for the next one. Prob next time would be BA wants their cabin staff to fit inside the aisles so's they can do their jobs and serve the meals. And eliminate the need for extra fuel to haul those fat non-aisle fitting asses.
grungy-gonads 54
Tell you what though, I was looking at prices for late July / August - don't know how much other airlines are but it seemed really cheap business class. Wonder if they are offering cheaper rates because of all this nonsense to get people back..
brit-gob 9
Don't know where you are looking gg, but it seems more expensive to me.
thursday 1
The flight entitlements continue into your retirement. So you can still travel the world at 10% of normal ticket prices. I wonder if the strikers regret having lost their benefits?
NoFakie 45
The fuel surcharge is back, so economy is more expensive. Dunno about business coz its too dear. No 100,000 yen campaign on BA this year either. They are advertising at 69,000, but its 113,000 or so once the charges are added. You have to wait until late September for that price too. Last year was 100,000 in July/August.
pie-eater 207
I have been looking. End of July / beginning of August: Economy - around 180,000 yen Business - around 350,000 yen
