Hotaka Scott 0
Where: Mt. Kita no Mata (Toyama/Gifu) When: March 27th - 29th, 2009 Why: Because it snowed - a lot What a difference a week makes. Last weekend it was looking like this... And then this weekend... So when blessed with the second coming of winter there is but one thing to do - enjoy. And so began the journey... With about 40cm on new fallen snow it was slow going... But we eventually reached the hinan goya at about 4pm... For most of the day the weather was gray and gloomy... But just before sunset we were treated with view of what lay ahead tomorrow... We retired for the evening, once again enjoying the company of some smooth Black Russians and our own fatigue... Day 2 With clear skies and another 15cm or so of new snow we got started towards Mt. Kita no Mata... ...to be continued.

Hotaka Scott 0
Part 2: And so up we went.. Approaching the wind swept summit... Reaching the top at about noon... (note: matching outfits just a coincidence - honest) Getting some nice views as well... And then the gettin' down... ... to be continued.
Hotaka Scott 0
Part 3 And then back to the hut for a short break followed by one more short run in the area... Capping off the day with fine sunset... Day 3: We awoke on the 3rd day with some questionable looking weather... And so decided to head back home... It was a fairly uneventful trip down... But well worth the effort... O-wa-ri

gurgle 0
A great report again.... btw Scott, I never did get around to doing the "Double Black Diamond Club" orientation course at Hakuba 47 this year. I was there for a couple of days last week though and notices that they had closed the gate after the big dump on Thurs night, but had re-opened it by Sat. morning. Those in yellow arm bands were having some fun in there.
