scouser 4
...and it was the first thing I saw when I just went to the Guardian . Now I know where my mate grabbed that from!! Will have to check out that book looks like an interesting read http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1861056834/qid=1126065435/026-2585647-9590007 Anyone here read it? rach 1
I didn't watch it (was it on?) but I see England lost last night. On the BBC website: "It capped a nightmare England display" "England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson's growing band of critics were provided with an almost limitless supply of ammunition by an abject performance."
scouser 4
I think it is only being shown tonight as a recorded game rach on sky2. I won't bother I think. I like the Guardian comment best "Anyone still bleating about giving Eriksson more time is now legally obliged to stop. This was a dreadful performance from England, conceited, lazy (for which the players are to blame), and full of misunderstandings and players shackled by being out of position (which seem to stem from Eriksson's reluctance to leave certain people out)." ShinyDiscoBall 2
Another good one from The Soaraway Sun: 'None of the England players seemed to know what their job was as Eriksson stuck to his 4-5-1 formation with Michael Owen left on his own up front.'
ShinyDiscoBall 2
Terry Butcher wasn't too impressed either http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/internationals/4224592.stm I'm almost keen to watch it tonight now to see just how bad it was
grungy-gonads 54
Sounds like a quality game - I think I'll watch it. It's on tonight at 10pm, Sky Sports 2.
ShinyDiscoBall 2
football365 have got a good list of "questions" arising from the game last night. http://www.football365.com/opinion/f365_opinion/story_162248.shtml It drives me nuts thinking of the money that gimp gets for doing bollocks all and making a pigs arse out of it. Worse than the ridiculous money the players are on.
soubriquet 0
Oh dear. Congratulations Northern Ireland. Hopefully the cricketers will be able to rescue some pride (am I allowed to use that work in this thread?). Go Canaries
ShinyDiscoBall 2
Yes, congrats are in order for NI. They apparently played well.

BagOfCrisps 24
England were utter shite last night. That's all.

scouser 4
This article just about says it all. The Guardian's footie pages really are excellent, don't you think?
ShinyDiscoBall 2
Night of footie on tonight - Chelsea vs Southampton and the Manchester derby - will be interesting to see how that one goes. I hear Ronaldo has gone back home, father died.
BagOfCrisps 24
We lost!? What!? Rubbish. That's what it is. Eriksson still got his job?
scouser 4
Yes and he deserves his salary , don't you know.
brit-gob 9
"David Beckham and Wayne Rooney squared up to each other in the England dressing room at half-time in last week's 1-0 defeat by Northern Ireland. Several of their team-mates, led by Rio Ferdinand, had to intervene to stop the captain and the teenager coming to blows. Beckham had already clashed with Rooney on the pitch a few minutes earlier when the Manchester United striker, in his latest display of bad temper, told Beckham to '**** off'. Beckham had told Rooney to calm down after he had first kicked the ball deliberately at David Healy, then raised his arm in a challenge with Keith Gillespie, earning himself a yellow card that will prevent him playing in England's penultimate World Cup qualifier against Austria on 8 October." They're just like little boys aren't they, bless 'em.

giggsy 0
Good interview with Giggsy on the Guardian. http://football.guardian.co.uk/News_Story/0,1563,1568468,00.html
scouser 4
Always liked Giggsy, definitely is slowing down though. He seems to be on the bench a lot recently - is that injury or what?
2pints-mate 0
Out of the top 10 "England's defeat to Northern Ireland last week has cost them their place in the top 10 of the Fifa world rankings. That 1-0 reverse in Belfast saw Sven-Goran Eriksson's side - already coming off a 4-1 friendly defeat in Denmark - slip from seventh to 11th. It is the first time England have been outside the top 10 since June 2004."
big-will 7
Does that actually matter at all, apart from the "pride" issue? It has some importance on seedings or whatever for the Cup?
scouser 4
Rooneys first red for Unuted - idiot "Wayne Rooney was sensationally sent off during Manchester United's goalless draw against Villarreal as the England star once again fell victim to his own stupidity." And, er, Liverpool won.
2pints-mate 0
Watched that just before. Rooney has got to decide whether he's going to persue being that footie "genius" or whether he's just going to explode. Come on Wayne, one or the other. It really was a stupid crazy sending off. BagOfCrisps 24
The guy has so much potential as well. Media madness aside, it will be interesting to see how he develops in the next year or two.
