Actually Japan voted to adopt daylight savings time back in 1998. It passed. In 1998. BUT, the change is not to go into effect in 2008. Why? The reason given by METI. . . "the Japanese people would be confused and we need sufficient time to teach them about it." And have you seen any public service announcements from METI over the past 8 years "explaining" the ever so difficult to understand concept of changing your watch twice a year? Me neither. I usually feel that way, not from having too much work, but from having too little focus or, ironically, having too much time.

I worked at home for the past year and half. For me, not having a clear barrier between work and personal started driving me insane. After almost 2 months of commuting now, I'm still happy to have that 45 minutes of distance between work and home. Wish I didn't have to stand the entire time on the subway, and I'm sure I'll get sick of it soon enough, especially when the baby's born, but for now I gotta say, its far better than working at home. A 10-20 minute bike ride would probably be the ideal commute, though.
