  1. The Hintertux was my first real taste of sking and coincidentaly where I met my wife. That was 20 years ago and it was no different then, I was surrounded by 'the beautiful people' and swiss or french private school students. I felt a bit conspicuous not wearing the 'proper'ski apparel with no idea what I was doing. Still we all had fun, I found my soul mate and developed a love of sking.
  2. My trival irritation No1 are the strangly worded messages computers give you. I got one the other day that said; Your concurrent application limit has been exceeded WHAT?????????????????? So I wrote to IT I don’t know what this concurrent application limit is but it seems Ive been very extravagant with it and I am now sadly concurrently application challenged. Ellipse will no longer commune with me and stubbornly refuses to open due to my sudden lack of concurrentness. Can you help me? It turned out that too many people were using the same program and I had to wait. I think t
  3. The weather here is near perfect, for work anyway. 27 degress dry and clear blue skies. I'd post a pic but dont know how. We are looking for a new car after the Skyline got nicked 2 weeks ago. The coppers found it after it was used by the little scrotes in a high speed chase. The cops had no chance of catching it of course but it was abandoned later. I dont want it now its had such a flogging. We are going to do "our bit" for the environment (and pockets) and get a high efficiency diesel next. 5.5L/100kms and few emissions. They just cost more to begin with.
  4. Let me get this straight a kamoshika is an african Wildebeest right?
  5. Im traveling to Hakuba 20th Feb Id thought about The Powderhouse or the Yamano Hotel but Im flexible. Somewhere close to the slopes or easy transport and the option of meals if I cant get my head around foraging for food. Ive never been to Japan before so its going to be a shock. However Im sure the locals are used to being shocked. What are snow conditions like at the end of Feb?
  6. Actually I thought you meant motorbike helmets. Didnt mean to open such a can of wrigglys. But now it is I think on balance the health benifits of wearing helmets is resulting in the detrimental effects of poorer fitness in our children and youths. Simply because it has put yet another barrier between them and exercise. This is going to result in a heavier cost in terms of increased health care. Incidently Ive worked in ED and I have seen the result of biking head injuries. Despite that experience I feel that life will always entail risk and trying too hard too mitigate that risk t
  7. If Ive paid for longer than I needed I look for drivers coming in to give them the ticket with the remaining time. My one man protest against the system.
  8. We have speed cameras here in WA but the road toll is still just as high. In fact this year we are well up on fatalities. The cameras are often in high traffic, high temptation areas. Not near schools or shopping centres. The revenue raising is so blatant that the govt dosnt make much effort to disguise it anymore. I think if they were used properly multinovas can reduce accidents but like most govt initiatives it is more about appearance than effect. soubriquet; "Speed cameras, like bike helmets, do nothing to promote road safety." Do you advocate the abolishion of seatbelts TOO?
  9. Ive a friend who was know for being "carefull' with his money. His dad took him aside one day and said "I think you had better unlock your wallet, you dont want people nicknaming you 'Whisper'" He changed overnight. To buy a round in Australia is to 'shout' the drinks.
  10. A good friend of mine had one of his dogs (kelpie) killed by a western grey I dont remember how big it was but it picked the dog up and crushed it. The dog had bailed it up and it was simply defending itself. Tourists often handfeed wild roos in the national parks but the roos can get stroppy if refused food or out of jealousy. Ive a very health respect for the big greys as they often weigh more than me and could easily kick a bloke into the middle of next week.
  11. Went to downtown Laverton, world renowned for its beauty, nightlife and cuisine NOT!!!!!
  12. Good summary SubZero. Id like to see Aussies move away from the unhealthy and environmentally unsound specis to native food animals. Already we can find kangaroo and even emu in the supermarkets but it is still just a niche market.
  13. About 20 cat at various times 3 dogs, 3 gerbils, 2 guinea pigs, 4 rats, dozens of fish, hermit crabs, 1 fox and a roo.
  14. I worked for 5 years in cardiology where we had all of WA's the heart transplants come through. I am a (potential) donor. After seeing how great a blessing a transplant makes is both the reciever and their family I couldnt withhold that gift. Bobby12 Ive never seen or heard of an organ going to a paedofile murderer or any other criminal.
  15. The best contraceptive pill for roos is a small copper jacketed pill called a bullet. Its quick and the end result can be utilised in a sustainable way. Id rather eat roo than lamb or beef after seeing what our domesticated food animals suffer enroute to our dinner plates.
  16. Never mind, while there are people like Paris Hilton in this world there is hope......................gag
  17. The term religious is often used in the common vernacular as a foil to the term spiritual. In this sense, religious may carry a pejorative sense of overly adhering to dogma or ritual at the expense of partaking in relationship with the divine. Man needs a measure by which he can judge behavior both on a personal and broad scale. Religion says that God is the 'absolute' measure. Humanitarianism says that man himself is the measure of all things. Both have been tried and found wanting. Id still lean towards Christian absolutes in preference to an arbitary man made guide to acceptab
  18. I think it is because christians speculated that Christ was crucified on a friday and out of respect refused to eat red meat on that day. The minesite that I am working at provides a range of fish courses every friday.
  19. I met my wife while waterskiing on the lake below the glacier in the Zeller See Austria. The next day we were on the piste at 3000m (Kitzsteinhorn). I felt pretty high that day. That was in 1986. We are still an item.
  20. Yes it is a "14 year old's" question but the moral and ethical argument is still valid. Do we commit what would normally be considered a crime to prevent a greater harm befalling others. It has been the justification of many retaliatory actions in the past. Few in their right mind would now support Neville Chamberlain's appeasement of Hitler or condemn the allies decision to fight. Yet in making that decision millions perished. Maybe the question should be, do I have the 'right' to do this?
  21. The PC thing to say is I feel all life is precious and we must weigh the pros and cons BUT knowing how his influence lead to the painful death of millions of people worldwide Id shoot him without a second thought.
  22. I have to agree with Mr Wiggles that there is very little good drama to be had except that from UK. The odd Aussie offering appears. It may be a valid assertion that the advent of 'cheap' reality TV has tempted TV producers away from drama. Im not an avid fan of TV but a 10n peak at Big Brother a week ago left me reeling. How I wondered could anyone sit and watch such dross? Any ideas?
  23. Keep up the cheese commentary, I love cheese. Have you tried Havarti with muscatelle grapes? They compliment each other. The smelliest cheese Ive expere=ienced was a flat round of 'Viking cheese' from ?Norway I think. We had to keep it double wrapped and at the far corner of the coolroom as it contaminated everything it came close to. I thought camel chocolate was something one scraped off the sole of ones shoe.
