Just saw a thing on tv about the increase in "domestic violence" (in katakana) or DV as it seems to be labelled now. Why do they use katakana for that? Is it something "new"? Is there a real Japanese word for it?

Not really... but what they did used to be was better than that (new one).

Aren't they "looking into" the LEGALITY of what they did and via the gaishikei route? Makes for interesting news for a change though.

Believe it or not I have heard exactly the same thing. Someone I know told me something along the lines that a resort would rather stay open and lose tons of cash (in the hope that some miracle occur and business got better) rather than close down and have to spend bigger tons of cash on "re-instating the mountain". The cost of closing far outweighing the cost of operating. Perhaps it was a joke. He sure believed it though.....

Not as bad as before I hear but definitely a good idea to leave early or (better still) very late after a long day.

I felt my first earthquake just before. It was real scary. It was a shindo 3 or 4 where I live, I can't really imagine something that was many times more powerful than that. I can only guess the feeling now.... and fully sympathise. Not happy happy.
