  1. oop, by that last post i meant people in the office, not people on this forum talkin about it
  2. now people seem to be having competitions over whose friend was the closest to the blasts. it's doing my fkn head in.... why are people attracted to tragedy and why do they feel left out if it doesn't happen to them???? still can't get in contact with some friends cos mobile networks are down. its quite scary not knowing
  3. luckily for me i work out of central london and i'm down near dulwich. its strange watching everyone's reactions in the office - some are concerned for the general safety of others, others are already thinking of travel inconviniences. get home safe 2pints
  4. oh wow. don't want to get too paranoid about it, but a bomb on the bus after an explosion on the tube seems like a bit of a coordinated plan...
  5. and now a bus just blew up in russell square. i'll stop posting now.
  6. um, radio is talking about alot of blood and whatnot, so i hope everyone's ok
  7. well, i hope everyone's ok. i've been getting in touch with all my mates and luckily they're alright. i wonder if the "power surge" spin on things is actually true, or if they are just trying to keep a lid on things and not send everyone into a panic. good advertisement for the tube, the day afer london gets the olympics.
  8. everyone in my office went absolutely nuts when it was announced. i'm not really sure why, cos no one said a word about it until today. gonna be a big party tonight in trafalgar square tonight though
  9. Ok, so who in the uk watched the tv coverage? Unbelievable highlight of the day was watching Robbie Williams being interviewed mid-afternoon. Eyes totally glazed over, and chewing his face off, he avoided questions about the charitable principles of Live 8 and instead tried it on with the young lass interviewing him. When he started rubbing himself against her they cut the interview off! Freakin hilarious… wonder if that will make it onto the official DVD?
  10. BPC, I’m also a fan of German and Belgian brews. In Germany, beer is classified and taxed as a food, as a result a big bottle of it costs about 60cents in the supermarket. After the debacle that was my attempt at a season in Austria last year, my girl and I spent a month romping around Germany drinking the many fine brews there. A top drink my Cornish mates like is a turbo-shandy – which is half a pint of lager topped upo with a Smirnoff black ice. That stuff is like rocket fuel – pretty strong and super sugary, it really gets proceedings going (although not always in a good way).
  11. Haha, the best line in dodgeball is “it’s like watching a bunch of retards trying to **** a doorknob”. For fans of dodgeball/happy gilmore etc, I’d highly recommend Anchorman with Will Ferrell.
  12. Ok, this is more of a mechanical question, but it relates to driving downhill in a lower gear – whenever I do this the engine makes this sort of pinging noise like it can’t compress properly. As soon as I shift into a higher gear the car seems happier and the noise stops. So if I’m driving down a steep but relatively tame hill I tend to coast along in a higher gear, but if the road is sketchy and its raining etc I drive in a lower gear and freak out about the noise. I’ve got a 1985 renault traffic with a petrol engine. If anyone is a car buff I’d appreciate the advice
  13. Yeah SubZero, I’ve resolved to just call people up on littering if they look like otherwise normal members of society. The 16 year old hip-hop kids who live in my area I might just leave em be. They’re at that age when they have zero respect for anyone/anything and a real thug mentality, and I want nothing to do with it. I’m not so worried about myself, but I am worried about my van, or my house getting trashed or them starting something up with my girlfriend, as we live in a kind of rough area. I don’t enjoy conflict and I’m only in London for 6 more months so its not worth getting my kni
  14. Litter drives me absolutely bananas. So much so that I normally go out of my way and pick up the odd bit here and there and put it in a bin. Living in London I’m amazed and the amount of rubbish that people just blatantly chuck onto the streets – people walk out of maccas, unwrap their burger and just throw the paper on the ground. I find really offensive, and I’ve started calling people up on it, in some sort of campaign to publicly shame people into putting their rubbish in the bin. All that’s gonna stop now though, cos on the bus the other morning I asked some kid to stop throwing his c
  15. Which one are you addicted to? In the uk they have CSI Miami, Las Vegas and I think there’s a New York one too. It’s a godawful show but pretty addictive in a sad sorta way. The best/worst one is CSI Miami with David Caruso. He’s the sad ginger-haired man who’s constantly tough-talking. I can’t help wondering if he busts out the same corny lines in real life.
  16. Munich is a fun place, everyone there was pretty happy and the city had a good vibe. Great beer and sausages and some of the best design museums I’ve been to, it depends what you’re looking for in a city I guess. If you’ve got a bit of cash you could fly to Iceland, hire a car and check out all the glaciers and volcanoes and the crazy landscape. Or check out Norway, I hear that’s pretty cool too. Or head to the south of France and get some waves…or Spain, or Portugal. too many choices really
  17. I’m not sure if they can be classed as waffles per se, but in northern Europe you can buy these packaged snacks called stroopwaffles (syrup waffles) which are basically waffle biscuits sandwiched around obscenely sweet caramel syrup goop. They are quality. I think you can get them in japan too, cos the really cheap ones we bought in Germany came in Japanese packaging. Oh, and Belgian beer is the best. I’d highly recommend a drinking holiday there to anyone who enjoys a good beer. Fantastic times to be had sampling the hundreds of different local brews.
  18. This might sound insanely stupid, but I’m curious so I’ll post it anyway… Why do all website and email addresses use English characters? How come you don’t get pages that use Japanese, Chinese, Russian, Arabic etc letters? I presume this has something to do with international internet access, but what stops a country the size of say, China, deciding that they want to use Chinese characters in email addresses?
  19. from the nerds i've spoken to (and i mean that in the nicest way), it's just a matter of time until someone develops a virus for a mac, its just that at the moment, there aren't as many macs as PCs out there, so no-one's gotten round to writing one yet. which doesn't seem to make much sense to me, cos there's still heaps of mac users?? currently, the only viruses you can get on a mac will only affect Microsoft software. ahh, but then i don't really know a huge amount about this sort of thing, i'm sure someone on here has a better idea.
  20. Computers are just a tool in the end… I guess I meant it does everything I want it to. Mostly I just use my mac for basic things, nothing too complicated. I just like the way macs look and operate, and I find their programs simple and easy to use (eg iTunes) whereas I find windows quite clunky. No doubt other people will disagree, it doesn’t really matter much in the grand scheme of things. Virus wise, I thought PCs were forever getting bugs, whereas the only ones that exist for macs are related to Microsoft office programs?
  21. oh wow, interesting to hear about your problem indo. i've never had a problem with apple in the past 6 years until i bought my new iBook. less than a month after purchase the whole screen dies, turns out some hardware malfunctioned. trying to get the bloody thing serviced was a nightmare, forced to line up and wait for hours at an apple store, and wait almost a month for the problem to be fixed - keep in mind i'd only had it for less than a month. customer service has been a complete nightmare, nobody anyware was remotely interested in my complaints/point of view, i'm really really unimpress
  22. i find clothes really restrictive, at home i usually walk around in just a pair of shorts, even in winter. i came home from an afternoon of drinking on saturday to find my two female housemates drunk as hell and prancing around naked comparing outfits for the evening. that i like!
  23. a few years back fernie in canada had a "no questions asked" refund policy within 1 hour if you weren't happy with the snow qaulity - maybe thats what FT is talking about?
