  1. I know there are many facts why Arai had to close in terms of operation but I was curious to know story behind the story. Usually there is a parent company behind the operation company and if you know the financial condition of the parent, easy to know the resort is still ok or not. It was not easy to find the parent company of Arai resort and this story is pretty interesting for me, sorry it's Japanese... http://blogs.yahoo.co.jp/yukizaru_arakichi/37542911.html a) Operating company - Arai resort (went bankruptcy this summer) Parent company - Reikei (went bankruptcy last year, use
  2. I usually buy Est Est Est! Very cheap dry white wine, and nice with s.pellegrino while you are having a meal. Ocean, you should try "CAVE D\'OCCI" . This vineyard is in Niigata and they are making Chardonay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon... I've heard their wine is not like other Japanese wine but just like real wine.

  4. sigh... not big enough, Inamura classic was put off again... yes, yes, I know there could be some nice spots in Wakayama. I found Isonoura in Wakayama also has a surfing event just like Inamura classic this year.
  5. I checked the taifu website again and wondering, is Wakayama right spot? They should go to north, Chiba or Ibaraki. http://www.wavehunter.jp/wh/wavehunter/wh_tool/wh_tool_byarea.php?location=03&type=nww3h
  6. http://www.snowjapanforums.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php/topic/1/6026/2.html Last year RockyV was the first, skiing Karuizawa manmade snow on the 12th November. I hope I can start my season November this year. Can't wait!

  8. It's nice to know there are some waiting surfers around the world. This reminded me of these guys waiting for big waves for 17years at Inamura. Ioke is coming this way!
  9. There is a kite island at Kasai Rinkai park (near Disneyland). Usually a couple of teams are practicing synchronized kite flying every Sunday, very interesting.
  10. Great tsonda! Shonan village is just 5minutes drive from the beach, it's on the hill. Unfortunately, tomorrow is the last day for all beach bars, so there is nothing on the beach in September. But you'll see amazingly beautiful sunset from the park near the hotel. If you have a car, you can still enjoy nice restaurants and a secret bar.
  11. That's why I go there. Less commercialized, good local community, best view of Fujisan and the most beautiful sunset. Maybe we can have a party there next summer if you like, tsonda. As for the word "Shonan", local people don't use this word because the definition of Shonan is too vague and we don't know where you are pointing at.
  12. Is there any ideal weather chart for good waves? Since I saw a guy who was drawing weather chart with listening to the weather radio on the sailing boat, I'm always wondering how you can expect big waves or nice wind, and of course big snowfall!

  14. Hurricane Ioke became Typhoon when it crossed over the 180 line, interesting. It's still very strong but probably too far to come to Japan.
  15. Edamame and beer -I love the green of edamame. -Local beach bar Blue moon -Hotaru -The sound of Higurashi http://homepage2.nifty.com/saisho/song/higurashi/kucho99.mp4
  16. I was expecting to sail to Kozu or Shikine island from Oshima on the second day. But we heard black current near Toshima was pretty rapid, so decided to steer north west headed for Ito. And then we heard all marinas in Izu peninsula were fully booked. So we had to steer north east 60 degrees headed for Boso peninsula and cross Tokyo bay... Yeah, Sotobo sailing must be much more exciting and nice. Do you sail to Vancouver Island, fjef?
  17. I thought Tsukiji wasn't so smelly compared to the fish market at local fishing harbor. Sushi at Tsukiji is pretty expensive, probably they use very good quality fish. I am not so happy to eat Sushi or raw fish for breakfast though...
  18. I was on the sailing boat for three days last weekend. However, August isn't good time for sailing, no wind and we could sail maybe less than 5hours in those three days. Sailing itself is fun but I had a few unpleasant things on the boat. One thing is Tokyo bay, when you get closer to Tokyo bay, the water is getting very very dirty. The sky toward Tokyo is as dirty as the sea. It was so disgusting to think this is where I live... Another thing, we caught two dolphinfish(mahimahi in Hawai?) and cut off their head to keep fish meat fresh. I thought we were going to eat but we didn't and th
  19. Wow, you can find Kawauso in the river in Canada, amazing! It's pretty big, isn't it? They catch salmon like bears do?
  20. Typhoon7(Maria) has passed Kanto area today but there are still two typhoons in the south. Weather forecast says rain this weekend... I'm not sure if this weekend is good for sailing. I hope the weather map will be changing later. http://www.data.kishou.go.jp/kaiyou/db/wave/chart/awjp.html http://www.imocwx.com/rsmwv.htm
  21. Ah, yamaya is nice. There is a yamaya just 3minutes walk from my office. I usually buy Black Pepper(very strong and good!), couscous and Italian ingredient. Basmati = Jasmine rice?
  22. We import a little rice. Thai rice is easy to find. "Japan, Rice, GATT" you can find the story.
  23. But drivers don't get hurt or killed by the cyclist accident. You are the one who could get hurt or killed at your worst. Maybe this law is protecting cyclists.
  24. spud, that kind of law is very British and Nordic, to enjoy the benefits of nature, isn't it? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right_of_public_access_to_the_wilderness England has history of Commons. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commons We have similar rights called "入会権-Iriaiken" in Japan. This law is no longer useful and needs to be reformed.
