  1. lifted a roll of fat and pulled out a greatest hits from the 80's CD...
  2. This nightmare had to end, so I yanked my arm out from under her, spilling her mass onto my bedroom floor, and made a dash for the window...
  3. I noticed that yesterday... No matter where I went, the whole city smelled like dead fish/low tide... so weird!
  4. I got a cold when I first arrived home for my vacation a couple of weeks ago, and determined not to be sick for the duration of my stay, I downed some antibiotics. Without thinking about it, I headed to the beach to relax, and sat in the sun for about 3 hours with no sun block (which normally wouldn't burn me)... When I got back to the car, I realized my skin was super red, and then turned reddish purple by the end of the evening... Apparently anti-biotics make your skin super sensitive and easily susceptible to sunburn. I spent the rest of my vacation burnt and unable to r
  5. It's now official. American politics are a joke!
  6. it's part of nature man! Stand in hot sun, skin turns dark.... whats the big deal?
  7. Apparently the group involved wants all of southeast asia under fundamentalist islamic rule... I really don't understand at all... What motivates these guys???
  8. Quote: Originally posted by AET: When is a tip deserved? Don't they get paid a salary? I never tip and never have done. It's a terrible concept I think. At a normal restaurant, Waiters, waitresses, and bus boys get paid a very low base salary, often below minimum wage, and then rely on tips for their livelihood... Never too late to start tipping...
  9. akibun - don't go crazy with tips. It's not that difficult and don't feel like you need to spend alot tipping. Restaurant... Just tip double the amount of the tax on your bill. Hotels... you should leave a few dollars ($2-4) each day for the cleaning people. Taxis... If you are not going very far, 1 or 2 dollars is acceptable. If you go for a long way, like to or from an airport, 4 or 5 bucks is better. tanoshinde... itterashai!
  10. amandaism - here ya go (trailer included): Focus Features - Lost In Translation Looks like there will be alot of stuff that will be funny if you've had any tokyo experience.... but whats up with Bill Murray paired up with the chick from ghost world??? The age difference is like father-daughter.... kinda creepy.
  11. I'd take swamp-ass hot over rainy season anyday.
  12. How popular is WRC in the UK? For me it's the most exciting motorsport to watch, but there's almost no coverage on US TV. There's nothing cooler than seeing a car belting down a dirt road at 100mph drifting through turns the whole way...
  13. With arnold as governer you'll have manditory statewide daily calisthenics hour. Is Arnold political material? Yes. He's a "cocky and arrogant" entertainer, and a shrewd businessman with loads of republican buddies in high places. Not the kind of guy who you'd want making decisions that are in the best interest of the majority...
  14. sbf - my bad, misread that last part... I think Antonio's got the right idea. Imagine a crop circle club has a 100+ people working from dusk till dawn on a design... I'm sure it's possible to crank out one of those really complex designs in a night.
  15. Quote: Originally posted by snowboard_freak: They seem to do OK with the smaller stuff, but when it comes to the massive designs, humans don't seem to cut it. Oh come on... Humans built the pyramids, the great wall of china, the hoover dam, and invented heated toilet seats that can spray your bum clean with water.... Any group of semi-smart folks could get together and figure out how to draw some pictures in a corn field, no matter how complex they appear.
  16. Apparently Wolfram is quite a controversial character in academia, and the reviews of his book range from accusations of plagiarism, to claims of sheer genius. The wired article about him and his book is, in true wired fashion, a bit propagandized, but worth a read. What seemed most interesting though, is Wolfram's attempt to use complexity, and cellular automata to explain every kind of science and phenomenon in the universe.
  17. db - Have you read A New Kind of Science by Stephen Wolfram?? I read a bit about his book in a wired article a few months back, and it seems like it would fit in well with the kind of books you said you've been reading... here's a link to the wired article which is worth a read in and of itself: The Man Who Cracked the Code to Everything...
  18. Damn straight ender! Diggin the sweets is nothing to be ashamed about They ARE amazing. While I haven't had the chance to try a Japanese Cinnabon, if they're anything like the american ones... they're the shiznit.
  19. Seen too many documentaries on these things, and they're done by people. People have created much more incredible things in human history than a bunch of patterns in cornfields. Does that mean to say I don't think aliens exist? Not at all... but I think there are probably a few really clever groups out there doing these circles duping everyone in the process.
  20. I guess you guys haven't heard about the accident in LA last week which involved an 80 year old man plowing his car through a crowded street market. Apparently he mistook the gas pedal for the brake.... Elderly driver plows through market killing 8, injuring dozens To make things even worse, less than a week later the same thing happened in florida, minus the fatalities. Although I'm beginning to think this kind of thing happens more than what is put on the news. Once drivers hit a certain age, they should be given road tests at increasing frequency as they get older.
  21. Band of brothers was really well done. If you liked saving private ryan, or ww2 films in general, you'll dig the series. I'm psyched for the Cruise flik too.. that comes out in december I think??
  22. Music magazines, websites (allmusic.com, discogs.com, amazon.com, etc.), friends, and every once and a while i'll head over to HMV or Tower and see what they have at their listening stations. The staff at the stores in shibuya are pretty good at putting out good stuff...
  23. Went to NY and back on Continental. The flight attendants were much friendlier than the bitter contemptuous hags on United i'm normally used to. My only complaint is that the movie selection wasn't as good as any of the United flights i've been on. United flights usually have 4 or 5 movies, discovery channel specials, and a comedy channel. My Continental flights just had two really crappy movies, a bunch of bad american sit-coms, larry king live, and some bad made for TV dramas. My return flight was only half booked and I lucked out with three seats to myself, so I spent a large part of t
  24. It's not so much a matter of priorities.... it's a matter of policmakers viewing prison time as a solution and/or deterrent to crime.
