  1. Quote: Looking at your post, the clap comes to mind. well, dunno if you were joking or not... but either way, is it just me, or is that just a really mean thing to say? so you don't rain on my parade, i'm gonna go and watch some ski movies...
  2. i've been hinting at some fat skis for me, but i didn't know if it was a sure thing... going to tokyo soon to check out the ski shops, you never know what i might come back with
  3. what's stupid are the truck drivers in this country. they go way to fast and drive like there is no one else on the road. there's no excuse for how fast they travel on the expressways AND the little roads around where i live. snow and ice don't seem to slow them down either. this sounds terrible, but every time i see one on its side, in a ditch or rice paddy (and it happens fairly frequently), i really have no sympathy
  4. Quote: So how do you explain this picture of you and Shimba then if you? though i loved that outfit - especially my stormtrooper boots, i had to finally say goodbye and am now decked out in K2... that's K2 helmet, jacket, pants and backcountry pack (not intentional, purely coincidental)... i must admit it's not nearly as stylie, but sometimes we have to sacrifice fashion for function
  5. so, appi seems to always get in the top ten... why is that when everyone who i have talked to would rather go to hachimantai or somewhere else? i haven't been there yet (so i can make my own decision) but i will this year since my season pass to geto will include appi too... i remember there being much more snow at geto last year than appi, most of the time better snow conditions too... they do have a park and halfpipe though, which geto is sorely lacking (fingers crossed and hoping like mad they will this year!!!!!)
  6. well, i must say that i'm not a huge risk taker, but my helmet has saved my poor noggin on numerous occasions... you know when you have a headache for a week that it would have been worse without the helmet whatever i do, i would prolly do anyway, with or without a helmet.
  7. i'm gonna end up in wanaka, nz, have a nice wee house, garden, maybe a lodgy type place for skiers and boarders to stay at, ski all winter, and play at the lake all summer!!!!! well, maybe it will happen sooner than retirement, but i still wanna be doin it when i retire... we have a retirement plan with our canadian friends, we follow the winter - so winter in canada, then winter in nz, then... you get the picture!!! hooray for dreams about the future
  8. Bachelor of Science: majoring in psychology, papers in biology, anthropology, physiology, geology and the dreaded compulsory statistics paper... really interesting, but maybe not super relevant for any job - so i spent a year getting myself a diploma of teaching after finishing varsity to top it all off... so now at least i'm teaching wouldn't mind heading back to Otago to study some geology, that was the original major, but who has the time when there is skiing to be done!
  9. well, one day, when we were at varsity, siem sent jared off to go drinking with his buddies alone cos she didn't feel up to it. jared and his friend are walking down the main street, minding their own business when they walk past a couple of guys... and to cut a long story short, jared gets his front teeth knocked after being headbutted in the mouth, police get the guy, he goes to court, has to pay money (a few dollars a week), we have to foot the huge dental bill and get a loan to do it (a couple of thousand dollars is a lot for students)... and we so far have less than a hundred dollars...
  10. well, i'm a kiwi and i have never heard that word in my life... or the spelling could just be a lot different to the way it is said... or maybe i just led a sheltered life and need to ask some of my friends about it
  11. a good hard crust? i used to love them that way, but there is nothing like a good old Jimmy's pie with a nice soft pastry... mince and cheese... mmmmmmm... hey, you guys could always make them...
  12. yep, music in the car, on the way is the only time for me - skiing with headphones on ruins the experience. i wanna hear what's going on... even if it's next to nothing and hey, i thought i was the only one who sang on the lift
  13. you can get mars bars at yamaya... as well as bounty bars... but the mars bars seem to be a lot softer than the ones you get back home. as for the moro bars, i have only seen them at value supermarkets and nowhere else!!! of note, they also have cadbury's fruit and nut chocolate, but i think it's from australia - their cadbury's is different from new zealand's cadburys... but i'm rambling!
  14. a peanut moro bar of course... you can even buy them at value supermarkets - and they are the ones made in nz failing that, the chunky kit kat is a winner!!
  15. so you mean ski jumping with the huge skis in skin tight suits, or jibbing...
  16. what i mean is to make the bits that are a hassle a habit - in other words, the getting out of bed super early, getting ready and getting there... besides, i don't think you could ever take away the excitement... actually, you can make the trip exciting too by playing some music to get yourself psyched up. i find pennywise is excellent for this - even early in the morning
  17. we (jared and siem) bought the set of volume ski video mags but we're still waiting for them, so we'll just have to keep watching ski movie 1,2 and 3, further and solid powder till they arrive
  18. make it a habit (so you just roll out of bed, slap on all your gear, hop in the car with a coffee and head up the hill) find people who love it as much as you do, and you'll be sweet! also helps when your boyfriend/girlfriend/husband/wife loves it as much as you...
  19. i'm afraid that is the case - we can't understand ... alarming though it is when you are told that the old people are lying on the warm footpath near where the super hot water is spewing forth from the ground because it "cures cancer". i'm not knocking it, just baffled at the reasoning...
  20. of course, i sing in the car, in the shower... in a lot of places really. it's what you do when you're on your own - well, when the mood strikes you, anyways
  21. mmmm, sounds good, ocean, i'll hold you to that let me know if you need the address to send it...
  22. well, i know that people reckon the winter won't be so cold because of the coolish summer, but it's got cold pretty quickly in isawa, and if i remember correctly, this time last year i was still lounging around in a t-shirt instead of breaking out the kerosene heater and huddling by it. is it just freaky weather, or a generally cooler year all round (that will hopefully result in a much colder winter!!!!)? hmmmmmmmm...
  23. ... and today we got a pair of really nice front speakers and tweeters to go with those subs, and are eying up a nakamichi head unit (second hand). at present, we are averaging savings of 80% - so what will we do with all the money we saved then?? oh, and also to go with the lovely new car audio, we also have agreed to purchase a van to put it all in!!!! hooray!!!! it's not the delica, but we're easy
