Check out some English movies with English subtitles, you'll see that what they say and what is written is often quite different. -
Not insects, but there's tons of small bats in the fields behind my aparto - take a walk outside in the early evening and you (fell like you're getting) attacked by the little buggers. Hundreds of them flying about.

Interesting reasoning there, db. The thing is, by doing that, you'll just sound very much like a gaijin who can't speak Japanese very well. -

Talking of Mel Gibson, I saw Braveheart recently and really enjoyed it. If I remember correctly, there was controversy about that too and how many liberties Mel took with the real life story. Good movie all the same. -
There used to be a lovely sakura tree near my house. It got chopped down earlier this year to make way for an advertising billboard, which now kindly tells me about the miso ramen at the new ramen shop in the town that I can have for 700 yen.

I'd say that it isn't as expensive as you might be led to believe before you come here, and there are definitely ways of not being ripped all over.
