  1. start working out now because skiing powder youre going to discover muscles you didnt know existed.
  2. definately less booze and less travelling, but maybe thats because Im in bed earlier and the mountians are closer than a decent proportion of my mates. I kept telling myself this in summer when I had to fork out the expressway moolah
  3. Ok Nofakie now Im feeling inspired. Tis the season after all. Will have to pay Cainz home a visit for those mad lights, coool
  4. New Years in NZ kicks ass! Summer sun, camping with mates somewhere near a beach, huge party somwhere, not being cold, not worrying about where to sleep, bare feet - waaaaaay better than following the other 120 million people to a shrine that you cant even get anywhere near
  5. Kotatsu is great, esp if not home for long and just want to grab a bite and not heat the whole place up. But they make my legs itchy as anything. Anyone else have that problem or is it just me?
  6. Im still seriously thinking about going into the hills and chopping me down one, or a decent big branch even. It would have to be a stealth operation under the cover of darkness. But what to do with it after christmas? Such a bitch to get rid of stuff here. Maybe I could burn it and make my grumpy neighbour even more happy.
  7. skirts are so free. The breeze blows, they caress round your legs, you certianly strut a bit more, esp with boots on.. And they make a nice change from ugly ass thermal underwear and bulky ski pants. But the short skirt thing in winter I just dont get. I was out last night in Nagano at 2am and it was minus 8 and a skank hobbles past in a short short skirt and stilettos with no stockings even. I mean sort yourself out girrrl. Respect!
  8. love the vocab on this post. My vote is for tissue usage any day over ingesting the grot or sniff sniff sniff sniff snifff sniff sniff that drives you crazy after a while. A bit like the tea slurpers. And how can anyone criticise hanky/tissue usage when there is people ******* and hoicking lung oysters into the streets. Foul foul people
  9. what time is love by the KLF. its about 13 years old but still gets the juices running - what more does a song have to do to classify as "the best ever"?!
  10. Yeah I like the guy. When i first saw him on tv he seemed a bit o.t.t but then went to Queensland and saw his setup there and realised that thats what he really is like, thats who he is. He knows his stuff and seemed pretty paitent with all the dumbass questions we asked him. His wife even went and got a massive snake for us to have a hold. There are other people that deserve criticism more - like the yank version, the fella with brown hair. What a **** .
  11. basic question but what when youre in the powder what are the pros and cons of stiff vs softer skis? And Im 168cm tall so what kind of length should I be looking at? As for curves mogski you havent seen mine yet
  12. Ok the time has come for me to bite the bullet and get me some fatties for the insane powder that just keeps coming down in Nagano. So can anyone offer me any advice on any good makes, things to look for, anything really. cheers
  13. I am very impressed with Hakuba 47 and Goryu this year. they took the initiative, were flexible with opening runs and when to close them and its paid off - its reputation has skyrocketed and Im betting they will get more people there this year. Other resorts should definately sit up and take notice And the powder there today was insane! groin deep, smooth and still bucketing down but shhh dont tell anyone...
  14. I snapped my Anterior cruxiate ligament. Lots of pain and a long recovery with hot physiotherapist . Moral of the story dont set your bindings too tight. Oh and once I got a bruise. It really hurt
  15. Ive just been out to Nozawa with Nekobi and it wasnt too bad at the top at all - and got some free soup! Score.
  16. maybe the early snow didnt raise hopes but it certianly whet appetites. Thats the worst part, once youve had a taste of how good it can be and then theres all the icy crap around at the moment. Lets hope the snow dumps as forecast.
  17. Ive just been up to Nozawa and the recent rain and warm temps have made the slopes yuckky and icy and cruddy. Anyone been to Hakuba in the last few days and offer any advice where to go tomorrow (Fri). Am keen for some slope action but if its crappy will just use the season pass and not fork out the moolah for somewhere else Cheers
  18. uggh the night train sucks. They leave the lights on all night and the seats dont really recline. I ended up strectching out in the aisle and felt like utter shit when I arrived. The bus on the other hand is great. Dark, cosy, warm, comfy and you control the heat of the seat. Just ask at an info place at any bigish stn and get yourself some ear plugs
  19. I definately think MDs are the way to go. I had my old one since 1998 and just upgraded to one thats got over 100 hrs playback. 100 hours! Thats like a week of non stop listening! And it weighs something stupid like 60g. Sure they have their faults but I think they are much better and cheaper than anything else around at the moment. I gave my old one a fair bashing and throwing around and it still worked fine. Ive got the recordable part in my stereo and so with about 60 mds that a hulluva lot of savings on CDs. And like someone said just record over the ones you dont like anymore, make good c
  20. I wasnt worried about getting caught etc as have seen a total of 2 checkpoints in 2 years of driving here but more worrying is the insurance thing. I mean if youre not a licenced driver your insurance wont be valid so apart from being a major waste of money it means if you hit someone and kill them then if the rumours are true you might be paying it off for the rest of your life. No thanks
  21. What I meant by maintenence was things like building jumps etc and they dont run all the lifts sometimes during the week, not that you cant do the run, but that there isnt the crowds so you have to ski to the bottom of the run rather than get a lift up from half way. Just in my experience.
  22. Mmmmm starbucks. Why dont that have Starbucks on the slopes? They would make a killing. If they can do it with McDonalds...
  23. Ive found that weekdays are way better for striking up conversations than weekends. Maybe people are more relaxed and maybe the people that are there are for the love of it more than the ski-a-run-and-drink-coffee-for-2-hrs types that are often there at the weekend so they can tell their mates "I went skiing". You can always be a bit proactive too and jump on the lift with the guy infront of you. I think most people are willing to talk and curious but youve usually got to start the conv.
  24. We take the tree down in NZ when it starts to die, which because it is summer usually just before NY, or when someone can be stuffed dealing with it. One time we forgot to do something with it before we went away and came home to a big stick in a bucket and a floor covered in pine needles. Anyone know about getting a real tree here. Say just for example if someone was going to go into the hills and chop something down do you think they would get in trouble? Hypothetical of course..
  25. Yeah I remember being in NZ when those guys died near Happo and there was a bit of a fuss in the media because the hold up was who was going to pay. The big stink was that paying for the search shouldnt be an issue and if a Japanese boarder had got avalanched on a NZ mountain the pay would be sorted out later, after the search had finished. At the time I remember thinking that some poor bastard is running around an office somewhere trying desperately to get a few hankos on a piece of paper... I agree with fattwins, make sure you are prepared but as for ways to die wayheey it would beat mo
