Driving to Hakuba??
gamera replied to danz's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Danz, I recommend Chuo coz much easier for people to find correct route after taking your exit at the closest I.C. ( Toyoshina in this case ). Even for me, it was kind of complicated to find the correct route when i took an exit at Kosyoku and Nagano I.C.that probably people have to take their exit via Kan-etsu Exp. way. One point i have to tell when you drive Chuo Exp way. Pay attention when you take your direction to NaGANO Exp.way at Okaya JCT. Signboard there says NaGOYA and NaGANO!!! Perhaps pretty easy to mix for English speaking people. If you learn Kanji for Nagano and Na -

can you walk from goryu to 47
gamera replied to amandanism's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
I think there are some services available a day between Goryu and 47. Not so many. Humm....If you walked from Goryu to 47, maybe it would take more than an hour? - even from Iimori side. And if you wore a pair of ski boots then, it would hurt! -
Humm... snow this time teases me a lot. I have removed snow for 3 days. 1st day - by snowblower all the side of the house 2nd day - climing a part of roof that is calmer than other roof to drop snow and again snowblower work. 3rd day - snowblower work... Humm.... perhaps helmets protect people when they hit their heads, so we should wear one. But I have a problem!!!!!! My head is really big, 63cm around!!!!! So I have always had a hard time to find a cap or a hat in shops in Japan since I was a kid. When I was a high school student, there were not any caps that fitted my head. The only available one were 61cm, so I got it and cut the back side a bit to fit my head. Then moral tutors called me to ask why i did that. I needed to explain why. Then they all got surprised like " OMG, what a big head you have!".... After that, no moral tut

Japanese test? What is called in Japanese if i can ask? I took a TOEIC English test for the first time back in September 2001. It was probably the same with what you felt in the Japanese test. Grammer is okay for me because English education in Japan always goes grammer grammer grammer..... reading reading reading... writing writing writing.. But hearing was extremely hard for me. Have never lived abroad, neither had any experience as a foreign exchange student. I could follow the first some words, but could not follow the rest when the tape was played. I learned I need

Why? Norichan And I agree to OUfreeski2. I never had any scary stuff for it, but some of my friends told it kinda scary even for all of us Japanese men. Daddies just don't want to lose their daughters.

Hi! Ohaiyo Gozaimasu, Konichiwa, Konban wa
gamera replied to Angel Knight's topic in General off-topic discussions
Hiya AngelKnight I'm a native Japanese speaker. Your Japanese looks pretty good. If you don't mind my adjusting your Japanese, there's a few here! koNichiwa --> KoN Nichi wa ( double N required) Dozoo --> Douzo. If you say Dozoo, it means a warehouse, but exactly it is described "DozoU" when you write it in hiragana or katakana. Good luck! -
Hum.. but where can I rate people?.. Damn this gamera is also getting old to understand new thing like mogski said
-
What's this rating thing???

Is skiing in Japan a joke?
gamera replied to beer baron's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Beer baron, I live in Hakuba and think it's approximately 10,000 yen and a bit more for one way to come here from Kyoto boarding on a Shinkansen from Kyoto and Shinano limited express from Nagoya. At the top december sometimes we have enough snow and sometimes less than supposed. Guess perhaps you can hit upper ski slopes at Goryu,47 and Happo then. Good luck -
Is Japanese language difficult?
gamera replied to curious-georgia's topic in General off-topic discussions
Hummm... Okay. Why some Japanese words that contain "R" are hard to pronounce for foreign people? - as a Japanese man, I think you had better try pronouncing them with "L", not with "R" when you pronounce them. In short, just pronounce like "Lya", "Lyu", "Lyo". We do write Ra Ri Ru Re Ro when we do in alphabet. But the pronounciations are more like La Li Lu Le Lo. Not quite the same, but closer. When I am asked, I usually tell people it. And they say it works!!!! I think I have posted the same before, but don't remember in which thread I did it LOL. Damn old brain -
I've not gotten any e-mails for it yet. So guess now people still thinking about it. How about yourself, scouser?
-
Thanks rach. You should organize one there.

Here's detail. Date: 8th June 2002 from 6 p.m. Place:Pizzakaya "Country road" Just on the right of a road to the Hakuba Goryu ski slope. Close to a railroad crossing. Within 5 mins on foot from Kamishiro station. (JR Ooito line) If anyone could come, please e-mail me to gam1960@hotmail.com describing "Nagano get together" at the subject line. Not so big place, so if totally more than 5 will come for sure, i think i'd better reserve tables.
-
Haha NoFakie, you live in Hakuba? What a small world! Not good, not bad season but learned a lot weird English that are never in dictionaries when some foreign guys get drunk talking to me at my bar. And yes still no snowblower yet. Have to get one by the next winter. Well, some places listed up, but most places asked me how many would come... no idea at all Perhaps it's much easier for me to organize one in my home but then i am to be a host!!!!!! Maybe I can't enjoy?
-
Perhaps it's also an idea. And we could have both (camping and others) in different time? Now im trying to find bars and stuff in Matsumoto, Omachi, Nagano and Hakuba area
-
How about Aokiko campsite? It's lakeside... too cold? argh....oo, winter? hard for me coz of busy to remove snow!!
-
How old is everyone here?
gamera replied to cal's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
