I am trying to read an English book, I chose The Firm by Grisham. It's hard going at times but I know generally the story and gradually getting there.

Enjoying the Olympics, though, middle of night timing aside

I go onsen most days in winter, it's great after a cold day especially when I've been skiing. Still go in summer but much less perhaps a few times a week.

I think by the time autumn comes we will all be ready, I would actually like to go to a place like this would be a fun half day.

I will mostly be in Zao, but hope to get further afield as well.

Unfortunately folks I can't see it changing much in the near future. People in Zao are aware of the issue, though some don't look on it as a problem as such. There have been a few places opening in the evening but struggle.

I think also first time skiing is perfect if you have decent snow condition.

I don't think Japanese associated skiing holiday with shopping. Not in Japan anyway! And certainly not in an onsen area or skijo like Shiga Kogen.

As with most places when you get the great snow conditions your opinion will change. I have enjoyed good days at Appi.

I take it you don't like Appi, DiGriz. I think it has it's appeal.

I really wish they would make this ETC system clearer and simpler. Even for us Japanese, it's confusing and most people really don't understand the details which always seem to be changing. I know the information is out there if you look and study but an easier system would benefit everyone surely.

Definitely. I went through a period once of actually not really enjoying the skiing. It was all about technique and not much about fun. I decided to snap out of that particular mindset and now it is 100% about fun.

Is there no way to use budget airlines in the mix?

Yes I would agree with that. But as they are near checking out both is good.

Not sure I would call it a "resort"! But a group of you would be a fun experience. Good on a day that is especially hot down below.
