The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Fine weather yesterday, particularly in the first half of the morning, with more cloud around in the afternoon. This morning we start with almost clear skies. As expected it will be a sunny morning (perhaps more cloudy this afternoon) and sunny through tomorrow. Light southerly wind and excellent visibility. Expect temps to rise above 10C in town today and tomorrow. It feels like we are getting our first taste of early spring, but of course it is too early for that. Hopefully we have be blessed with more blasts of winter in the coming weeks. Monday should be colder with the chance of some snow. With the sunny weather forecast (and it being mid-February, of course), the popular ski areas will probably be very busy this weekend. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Cloud gathered as the day progressed yesterday, but it remained fairly bright and sunny until late afternoon. The Japan Meteorological Agency recorded a temperature of 9.8C at 1pm. We start this morning with clear blue skies and that is what we expect for the day; along with town warming up to around 12C. This weekend is definitely our first taste of 'spring' this season; and a fair amount of snow will have melted away by the end of today. As much fun as it may be, thankfully tomorrow will be colder, with forecasts ranging from rain to sleet to snow; the higher up you are the better chance of the snowy goodness, of course. Beyond that, later on Wednesday is the best chance for some more snow, but there's not whole lot of snow lined up on forecasts unfortunately. For now, anyway. Have a good Sunday. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this seas 864cm Posted on Monday 16th February 2026 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Yesterday was, as expected, warm. The Japan Meteorological Agency recorded a town level temp of 12C at 2pm. So it felt more like late March than mid-February. After the brightness of yesterday, it's a dull and grey kind of morning with limited visibility... and a bit damp. It is colder (just under 2C) and not expected to warm up during the day, with a chance of rain/sleet/snow during the day. Hopefully we can avoid the rain and get some fresh snow, but I wouldn't expect much. Better chance of snow as you go higher. Tomorrow will be a bit warmer again (though thankfully not as much as this past weekend) and we'll probably get some more sunshine; same for Wednesday during the day, with snow due overnight into Thursday morning. Some forecasts indicate that we might get a decent layer of fresh from that. Can't help but wonder how the rest of February and March will shape up, but probably best not to waste too much time doing so! The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa. We've had a kind of a dusting of snow - I can just about justify 1cm for this report. Perhaps more than that at higher elevations. The day starts grey and overcast with some very light snow falling, though forecasts do seem to all be promising clearer skies and sunshine. Probably sometime this morning. Tomorrow should be fine from the get-go, with snow - proper snow - due tomorrow night and into Thursday morning. Fingers crossed we can receive a reset as there's no little sign of snow potential for at least several days beyond that. --------------------------------- GALA Yuzawa Official snow depth (reported by ski area): 280cm Notes: The Northern Area connection with Ishiuchi Maruyama and the Southern Area (Ropeway) connection with Yuzawa Kogen are both open Special night skiing is planned for 14th, 21st, 28th March and 4th April ----------------------- Ishiuchi Maruyama Official snow depth (reported by ski area): 210cm Notes: The top connection with the Northern Area of GALA Yuzawa is now open Daily floodlit night skiing until 28th February and then Fridays and Saturdays until 28th March (until 8:00pm) ----------------------- Iwappara Official snow depth (reported by ski area): 160cm Notes: Daily floodlit night skiing until 28th March (until 7:00pm on weekdays and Sundays, until 8:00pm on Saturdays and nights before holidays) ----------------------- Joetsu Kokusai Official snow depth (reported by ski area): 240cm Notes: Daily floodlit night skiing until 22nd March (until 9:00pm) The Atema and Osawa base car parks (and associated runs) are scheduled to be open on weekends only ----------------------- Kagura Official snow depth: Top: 350cm Base: 270cm Notes: Both base Ropeways are open and the Dragondola connection with Naeba is also open ---------------------------- Kandatsu Snow Resort Official snow depth: 215cm Notes: Floodlit night skiing on Fridays, Saturdays and nights before holidays until 28th March (until 2:00am the next morning) ---------------------------- Maiko Snow Resort Official snow depth: 275cm Notes: Floodlit night skiing on Saturdays and Sundays until 14th March (until 8:00pm on Saturdays and 7:00pm on Sundays) ---------------------------- Muikamachi Hakkaisan Official snow depth: Top: 320cm Base: 200cm ---------------------------- Naeba Official snow depth: Top: 240cm Base: 200cm Notes: The Dragondola connection with Kagura is open Daily floodlit night skiing until 21st March (until 8:30pm) ---------------------------- NASPA Ski Garden Official snow depth: 210cm ---------------------------- Yuzawa Kogen Official snow depth: Top: 220cm Base: 100cm Notes: The upper Kogen area and base area are both open The Ropeway connection with the Southern Area of GALA Yuzawa is now open ---------------------------- Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort Official snow depth: 185cm ---------------------------- Yuzawa Park Official snow depth: 160cm Yuzawa Now 2025-2026 season Data as of Tuesday 17th February 2026 Total snowfall at base so far 865cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 44 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 68cm (on 25th January) November 2025 snowfall 12cm reported on 1 day December 2025 snowfall 144cm reported on 9 days January 2026 snowfall 595cm reported on 23 days February 2026 snowfall 114cm reported on 11 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. Blue skies started to appear beyond then, though. And we start this Wednesday morning with beautiful clear blue skies and sunshine. We still expect some snow overnight tonight and let's hope that we can get a decent amount... as there's no snow due at least until early next week beyond tomorrow. Note that there is a chance of strong winds tonight and tomorrow morning; perhaps enough to affect some lifts tomorrow. Sunshine is currently forecast for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 15cm Snowfall at base this seas 880cm Posted on Thursday 19th February 2026 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa. After some beautiful clear and sunny skies during the day, we got some 'wet' in the evening, but... This morning it is good to be able to report some fresh snowfall. 15-20cm around town and a bit higher, with a bit less to the north in Minamiuonuma. It looks like this time there has been more snow in the southern areas of the town. It's another of those mornings where it would be really good for ski areas to say how much fresh snow they received overnight, but I cannot find any. Not one. :( I'm guessing there might be a decent fresh layer in higher elevations. The snow may continue this morning but will likely stop sometime during the day. It is currently just under -2C. We expect those several days of generally clearer skies and a fairly warm weekend. Wind might have been a problem today and while it didn't feel particularly bad out there earlier on, Kagura is only going to be opening the Mitsumata Area at the start of the day. The Tashiro Area will be closed and the Kagura Area status is 'postponed'. (Don't bet on it being open). As far as I can tell, all other ski areas are going to be open as scheduled. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa. Yesterday it did continue snowing for a large part of the day, perhaps more than expected, though for most of the time it was the kind of light that didn't really result in cm sticking. This morning we have clear blue skies and sunshine. It's a beauty. Cold early morning, too. Forecasts remain pretty much the same. Clear skies and sunshine and unseasonably warm temps across the weekend (and particularly warm on Sunday). I have spoken with a few ski area manage types over the last few days. They are all thinking along the lines of 'really, is that it?', wondering if there is any more winter left. All are very much hoping there is, of course, as am I. Anyway, it is a really beautiful morning and with that bit of snow yesterday, it should be a fun morning. Best make the most of it. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa and, as expected, we have beautiful clear blue skies and sunshine from early on. Yesterday we ended up with quite a bit of cloud around, but it generally remained bright. On to this weekend. It is going to be a very bright and sunny weekend... and warm. Today the temps are expected to get up to around 10C in town; and then up to around 14C tomorrow. (!) With Monday being a national holiday (the Emperor's Birthday), it's a 3-day weekend for many in Japan, and ski areas will probably get very busy. I hope you can enjoy the weekend, and let's all collectively hope for a cool-down next week. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. After the warmth of yesterday - nearly 14C in town (!) - today should be considerably cooler. (It is about 6C as this report is being written, but temps are expected to gradually get lower during the day). It did get quite windy later in the day yesterday, and I believe that was the reason that GALA Yuzawa closed a bit early - causing some huge queues of people waiting for the gondola back down. We have some rain early on this morning, with even Kagura reporting fog/rain. Thankfully that is not expected to last long with just cloudy skies expected for today. Sun is forecast tomorrow, but it shouldn't warm up quite as much as yesterday. There is some the sign of some potential snow on forecasts for the middle of next week. Up until then we should probably realistically hope for rain holding off and temperatures keeping low. I have heard that the Dragondola between Naeba and Kagura had some kind of problem yesterday but it should be up and running again today. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa. A rare first-hand report from the slopes! Yes, I have just come back from a few hours at GALA Yuzawa. First tracks up there were actually really good, especially considering the uncooperative nature of the weather in the last run of days. I was pleasantly surprised. Nice. The snow was softening up as I ended my brief visit. We started the day with clear blue skies, but it has been getting less blue with very thin cloud and... is hazy the right word? Still very bright and sunny. The forecasts all say this afternoon will be cloudy with rain looming overnight and early morning. Doesn't look like even Kagura is expecting snow, so let's just hope for little or preferably no precipitation. Beyond that, sun again on Thursday. There are signs of snow for forecasts later next week. Let's keep an eye on that and hope we enjoy a good early March. I just noticed Kagura is saying that the Number 5 pair lift there is going to be closed today. The reason given: staff shortage due to ill health. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. A grey, cloudy/overcast morning with spots of rain and damp roads. We might have to put up with some rain on and off through the day. It looks like the Takenokoyama pair lift at Naeba is going to be closed due to risk of avalanche. Other than that, ski areas should be opening as planned this morning. Tomorrow should be another fine and bright morning. The mild period continues, warming up more than we would like particularly when the sun is out. (A high of around 7C is expected today). The snow is feeling... spring. I think the best comment regarding our snow is that conditions are generally better the higher up you go. There is some snow on the two week forecasts in places, though just how much we actually might get remains to be seen. If we don't get much, though, and the mild/warm conditions continue, we have to prepare ourselves for the possibility that some ski areas might not be able to remain open as long as they originally planned. Hopefully we won't get there and March might still deliver some surprises. Sometimes when you get a run of warmth and lack of snow, you start thinking things...! My mind can't help but remember the mad snowfall that we enjoyed last February. It's quite the contrast with this year. Still, spring-like conditions can be a whole lot of fun. A different mindset is perhaps required. Let's try to enjoy what we have while we still have it! Tomorrow should at least start off fine again.
