Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata
New snowfall at base 0cm
Snowfall at base this seas 883cm
Posted on Monday 23rd February 2026 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.
After the warmth of yesterday - nearly 14C in town (!) - today should be considerably cooler. (It is about 6C as this report is being written, but temps are expected to gradually get lower during the day).
It did get quite windy later in the day yesterday, and I believe that was the reason that GALA Yuzawa closed a bit early - causing some huge queues of people waiting for the gondola back down.
We have some rain early on this morning, with even Kagura reporting fog/rain. Thankfully that is not expected to last long with just cloudy skies expected for today.
Sun is forecast tomorrow, but it shouldn't warm up quite as much as yesterday.
There is some the sign of some potential snow on forecasts for the middle of next week. Up until then we should probably realistically hope for rain holding off and temperatures keeping low.
I have heard that the Dragondola between Naeba and Kagura had some kind of problem yesterday but it should be up and running again today.
