Daily updates during winter season

Our reports are produced by long-term contributors based in each region and are published exclusively on SnowJapan.

The focus is on consistent, on-the-ground observations that form a day-by-day record of each ski season from beginning to end, covering conditions as they evolve throughout the season, without any marketing or promotional influence.

Our reporting currently covers the following regions (north to south): Furano, Niseko, Geto Kogen, Zao, Myoko, Yuzawa, Nozawa Onsen, Madarao, Shiga Kogen and Hakuba. Each Now report is independent and should be considered on its own terms.

Reporting sections

As well as the latest report, each Now section on SnowJapan includes detailed statistics and data visualisations, along with access to daily reports from previous seasons, many of which date back to 2012.

Each section is self-contained. The regions covered have distinct environments, and overall snow conditions are influenced by many factors beyond snowfall totals, including geography, temperature, wind and humidity. The amount of snowfall alone does not indicate snow quality.

For these reasons, while snowfall data comparisons within each Now reporting section are appropriate, direct comparisons of statistics between different regions should be avoided.

Weather resources

The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) provides official public weather, snowfall, and forecast information. While SnowJapan does not recommend or endorse any specific weather forecast service, we include links to JMA resources for reference as a widely used national source of official data. The links below open in a new window. Similar ski-area-specific links are also provided on each ski area information page on SnowJapan.

About weather forecasts

SnowJapan does not recommend or endorse any specific weather forecast service. A wide range of services—available in both Japanese and English, free and paid—can be found online. In our experience, the accuracy and reliability of these services can vary, and some may perform better in certain regions of Japan than others.
