IIIII 2
Topic starter.... Who would get your vote for Best Sportsman? (Still thinking)
BigSausage 0
Carl Lewis.
veronica 2
Not an expert on these things, but I was always bit of a Michael Jordan fan.
Siren 0
Ayrton Senna forever.
Glen Falting 0
Don Bradman. For those benighted souls who don't know who he was, he played cricket for Australia. He so dominated the game during his career that his batting averages were almost twice a high as those of his contemporaries. In baseball terms, his batting average was over 700. There have been a lot a great sportsmen and women (most of them Aussies ) but Don Bradman (who was also knighted -Echineko) was head a shoulders above the rest. He was also a remarkably humble and decent bloke.
Dims 0
Our Don Bradman for sure!
gammaman 0
Steve Redgrave - heard of him? Done all right the boy has.
damian 0
I make a pointed effort to dislike all sports stars.* Except for that 60 year old potato farmer that won the ultra-marathon between Sydney and Melbourne. Beat everyone in their fancy running shoes. * and that includes bradman. for gods sake he might have been good but can't our country...... oh, I have said it all before. Glen Falting 0
You're right of course db. We are a bit obsessed with Sir DB. I'd like to change my nomination to Tim Henman. Granted he's not much of a sportsman, but he is nice chap and surely that must count for something.
Dims 0
My answer was actually a dig at the stereotypical response you get from most australians when asked this question. Should have added a winking smiley at the end. Having never seen 'the Don' in action I would have any idea how good he really was. Actually Lance Armstrong would have to be up there, after coming back from cancer to dominate the tour de france. I used to love Daley Thompson the decathlete (sp?) as well, he was a great guy, true class and did a great interview. Anyone remember him?
Glen Falting 0
Yeah, Daley Thompson was incredible. Probably one of the greatest track and field athletes the world has ever seen. I guess you could also add Big Mig Induraine (sp?) and Edwin Moses. Guys that enjoyed a dominance for many years.
snobee 0
Yeh I think Lance Armstrong would have to be there. Arguably world sports most demanding challenge the "Big Tour" and to have won it again & again like he has - makes my body ache thinking bout it.
ortwin 0
Hermann Maier and Lance Armstrong for their great comebacks.

scouser 4
Takanohana! I bet most sportspeople wish they could eat and just get real F-A-T and be called the best in the world.
RayInJapan 0
Did I misunderstand the question? I thought it asked who is the best Sportsman, not Sports Man (aka best man in sports or best man AT sports)? Having watched him for most of his career, I stand by my opinion of best "sportsman"... nzlegend 1
anyone heard of Jim Thorpe? hands down the greatest "allround" athlete ever. By all accounts absolutely oozed talent. Speed power balance agility coordination. Was voted the #1 athlete of the 20th century.
