SnowJapan Admin SnowJapan#Andrew 6 Posted December 5, 2006 SnowJapan Admin Share Posted December 5, 2006 You may remember the telephone box on Route 17 near Yuzawa that got covered in snow last season. Here it is on January 20th 2006.... Well here is the telephone box today. We thought we'd keep track of it and see how it fares this season...
muikabochi 208
That was nuts last season. Lets see if we can't beat it. It's a beautiful morning today.
Markie 0
Let's NOT beat that this season. I didn't like skiing in the blizzard in Niigata last season.
muikabochi 208
I was thinking more of a 30cm of freshies every evening from 9pm-6am all season kinda way.

mattlucas 0
I hate to be a downer But that doesn't look like the same phone booth There is a mountain right behind the first one Prove me wrong Good idea though That's a cool picture and a string of them all through the 4 seasons of Japan would be interesting
eskimobasecamp 0
hahaha yeh i thought that too, when i first looked at it
muikabochi 208
I didn't take the photos, but, it's the same phone. I know it well. It's on Route 17 between Gala Yuzawa and Ishiuchi Maruyama.
ug 0
Public telephones are hard to find these days... I know I tried to find one last week in Gunma.
SnowJapan Admin SnowJapan#Andrew 6 Posted December 12, 2006 Author SnowJapan Admin Share Posted December 12, 2006 The same phone, honest! I'll have to take some more shots of it to give you a better idea.
thursday 1
then what happened to the mountain in the background of photo1. Or was it a huge pile of dirty snow?
SnowJapan Admin SnowJapan#Andrew 6 Posted December 12, 2006 Author SnowJapan Admin Share Posted December 12, 2006 It's still there! To the left. You can see the angle the photos were taken at are different. Give me a day or two and I'll take some more shots of the phone to make things clearer.
SerreChe 2
In the first pic it is not actually snow around the phone, but molded styrofoam, same type they use on movie sets ;-)
thursday 1
there has to be a fresh photo available now.
SnowJapan Admin SnowJapan#Andrew 6 Posted December 19, 2006 Author SnowJapan Admin Share Posted December 19, 2006 Hi thursday, sorry have been really busy. Anyway this morning I took some more photos of the phone (and felt a bit silly doing it!) Looking south towards Yuzawa: Changed the angle so you can see the mountain: From the other side: OK? SerreChe 2
this has to be the most photographed phone booth in the whole of Japan. ok then, we believe you Toque, satisfied?

BagOfCrisps 24
Lets phonebox.
muikabochi 208
tsondaboy - It's on Route 17 between Gala Yuzawa and Ishiuchi Maruyama. Not sure about looking good here. I live in Muikamachi, 20 minutes by car to the north of Yuzawa, and there is 0-1cm on the rice fields behind my house. Hardly any. I think the snow over the weekend gave Naeba a fair bit but down at town level it was weak.
SnowJapan Admin SnowJapan#Andrew 6 Posted December 20, 2006 Author SnowJapan Admin Share Posted December 20, 2006 Thats right. On Route 17 heading out of Yuzawa towards Ishiuchi, pass the Gala sign (and road) on the left and the phone box is probably a couple of hundred metres on the right there.
