Chriselle 158
Thanks Griz! @1.... Sure, Three x-rays, ultrasound, spinal tap, MRI and meds....180,000 yen. Add in the return trip costs and we can call it an even 200,000 yen..... As much as I love my dog...I won't be doing anything like that again.

ProbablyaCrazyPerson 2
I bet that made Chriselle laugh heartily. This may be a silly question but do many people have pet insurance?

Chriselle 158
Thats a big chunk of dough. Hope you dont mind me asking, but when you say never again, what do you mean there? MRI's...CT scans, ultrasounds are for humans, not for pets. If my future dogs go down lame to this degree I will stick with traditional methods and if those don't improve his condition I will do the humane thing and put him down. I just spent $2000 for my own totally selfish peace of mind.....to know that "I" wasn't the cause for his suffering. I came to that realization yesterday while I was helping to hold Tio down for all the poking, pricking, and prodding while he was intent on biting me for betraying his trust in me...or that's how it seemed anyway. F'ing broke my heart. For my wife the "guarded" prognosis gave her at least some hope but I can't see him ever walking again....and even the specialist called this a "hail Mary pass". Thus...never again.
Chriselle 158
I bet that made Chriselle laugh heartily. This may be a silly question but do many people have pet insurance? Of course it did....Thanks GN!! Pet insurance (in Japan) is ...umm...interesting. If you do the calculations it's better to just put 4000 yen away in a can every month for vet bills. Reason being is the insurance doesn't really cover much of the big stuff and you have a limit of around 20,000 yen per day.... So, even if we did have insurance not much of yesterday's bill would have been covered.
pie-eater 207
I'm sure you did what you thought was best for him too... don't feel bad. You obviously love him loads. And I am guessing he totally knows that.

Thus...never again. Oh, man, so sorry to hear this. When our previous dog was dying of cancer (but we didn't know that yet), the vet tried to give her an MRI. She was having none of that, even faking dying on the spot to avoid it. As soon as the doctors said, "we give up," she perked right up. Eventually, a couple of months later, she started heading off into the bushes at every chance -- that was her sign that she was ready to go. Took a while for us to catch on, we were trying to keep up with the chemo, but eventually it was clear even to us that we were just prolonging her misery. Never good to face the end, but that is part of the deal...
Chriselle 158
Thanks Metabo. Tio is one this month....I was hoping to actually get to the middle before the end though. But, ya... you're right.

snowdude 44
Sorry to here that result. Do you know something dogs are forever faithful, they dont complain, they dont blame us, they dont have any regrets and they enjoy a simple life. And dogs are fighters. What ever the final outcome you should be happy knowing that Tio kun had a great life even if it turns out to be shorter than expected.
Chriselle 158
What's the plan then Chriselle? Well....not sure, yet. He's scooting around the house today with one leg coming around (50~60% mobility) but the other is still only about 10~20%. Pretty good considering both were only deep pain responsive a few days ago. I rigged up some diapers so we can have a break from the continence for a while. That sure is nice..!! Cheers for that snowdude. If he continues progressing like he did today his chances are pretty good. My wife is ecstatic... I'm sticking with the "guarded" prognosis for now.
