Very interesting, MO. I don't actually plot them out in advance, of course, since there is no way to know at which point someone will guess correctly. (And I'm not about to spend time building up a collection of hints that may not be needed.) Usually just post somewhere picked more or less at random and then periodically, as needed, go hunting for something nearby to use as a hint. End up learning a lot myself in the process. Fun!
