LiquidX 0
Talk of gondolas and ropeways in another thread. Interesting that Hakkaisan replaced a gondola system with a Ropeway. Wonder what the reasons were.... cost? I suppose with a Ropeway you can go when you want, and a gondola needs to be kept going all the time? Any insights?
klingon 10
I would imagine you are right about the 'can go when they want' aspect to a Ropeway, in non-busy times.
muikabochi 208
The Hakkai-san one runs in summer as well for hiking and mountain biking, but only once every 20 minutes I think. Perhaps even less when it's not busy. In winter early morning and in busy times it pretty much goes non stop.
cal 6
I like quad lifts best. Fast and don't need to faff about with taking gear off.
pie-eater 207
The Gondola at Tenjindaira is so slow you could make a pie - and cook it - and eat it* - on the way up. Handy if you want to combine a day baking and skiing I suppose. (* and have pudding too)
muikabochi 208
Must go prepared next time!
pie-eater 207
You could probably set up a dark room and develop all your prints old-style with smelly chemicals on the journey up there, muikabochi.
snowbender 3
I want to try out this legendary slow gondola!
mina2 6
Haha, it's not THAT bad. They have it whizzing up (sort of) faster at the weekends.

2pints-mate 0
Me too. Snowboard as well. That Tenjin one is really getting a reputation!
muikabochi 208
no....it IS that bad They sure had a relaxed thing going on when I have been, first ski after 9:30? Havin' a laugh. Worth it though for the setting and jokes about the gondola.
ILoveZao 8
I think I heard that the Tenjindaira gondola is the same as the top one at Zao. Perhaps Zao runs theirs slightly faster - busy all year.
muikabochi 208
Coming to think of it, yes, they are very similar. Just Zao has always been a decent speed when I have been on it.
brit-gob 9
I bet the new Ishiuchi Hanaoka <> Mt Granview gondola will be a sight to behold. Latest tech too.
