Talk of gondolas and ropeways in another thread.

Interesting that Hakkaisan replaced a gondola system with a Ropeway.

Wonder what the reasons were.... cost?

I suppose with a Ropeway you can go when you want, and a gondola needs to be kept going all the time?

Any insights?

The Hakkai-san one runs in summer as well for hiking and mountain biking, but only once every 20 minutes I think. Perhaps even less when it's not busy.

In winter early morning and in busy times it pretty much goes non stop.

The Gondola at Tenjindaira is so slow you could make a pie - and cook it - and eat it* - on the way up.

Handy if you want to combine a day baking and skiing I suppose.

 

(* and have pudding too)
