muikabochi 208
OK so here is the list I know of, not all 100% confirmed but looking likely: Sympathigue, Iiyama, Nagano Igaya, Matsumoto, Nagano Urasa, Uonuma, Niigata Muikamachi Ski Resort, Minamiuonuma, Niigata Kayama Captain Coast, Yuzawa, Niigata Omote Manza, Tsumagoi, Nagano Any more to add to that? muikabochi 208
Oh I remembered that old casualties thread, but this is a more direct "list" so I suppose it has it's purpose!
sanjo 2
Muikamachi Ski Resort closing too? Didn't hear about that. Not that it's a major place.
tripler 0
Igaya, Matsumoto, Nagano is Igaya the only resort in Norikura Kogen or are there others still open?
rach 1
Omote Manza is that different from the Manza I have heard about before?
muikabochi 208
Probably different - there's the main one that is Manza Onsen and then the smaller Omote Manza.
Slippery Jim 65
Completely different. Manza's a nice small ski area; Omote Manza's s shitty few beginner runs with one decent slope and far less snow.
griller 9
I am going to Manza this season with the g/f. Nice quiet break planned.
muikabochi 208
Looks like Muikamachi Ski Resort can come off the list. The suckers people who own Yuzawa Nakazato have apparently bought it, and it will open this season.
SnowJapan Admin SnowJapan 178 Posted October 22, 2011 SnowJapan Admin Share Posted October 22, 2011 Was just about to post that, in the paper today hey? We can take Igaya off the list as well it is being sucked up into "Mt Norikura" (previously known as Norikura Onsen).
marku 0
Also Igaya is a tiny slope down the road from the main Norikura resort with nothing much there to write home about.
sanjo 2
Muikamachi is one of those places that always seems on the brink and changes hands a fair few times ins't it, muika? Got to wonder the appeal of taking over places like that, especially in these particularly challenging times.
muikabochi 208
Yes it is. The appeal? No idea. When I went a few years back to take photos etc it was almost totally empty. Literally. I believe they have lots of school kids and trips like that going but they can't make much with the budget prices they pay.
SKI 15
I remember that vid you posted from there. And you saying that if you had an accident on one of the courses it might be literally hours before anyone came past and helped!
veronica 2
I want to know..... at what stage do these resorts take down their lifts? And is one of the reasons they just call it "resting" to avoid the expense of cleaning it all up?
muikabochi 208
Good question yes. I don't know. I recall someone saying something like that though. Old places like Mikuni and a resort near Urasa, forgot the name!, quickly took down their lifts. But a place like First Ishiuchi keeps them there. And...... Arai!
dyna8800 3
The strange thing is that Kayama Captain Coast is listed in the Yuzawa Suberi Meguri promotion... But I could not find anything in Japanese news online that stated they were going to reopen for the 2011-12 season.
iiyamadude 6
Sympathigue is not opening this year, though it seems that the hotel is somehow struggling on
SKI 15
That place gets a lot of school trips I think. Can't make much cash off them.
Metabo Oyaji 71
Shirogane Ski Highland Parkhill Valley in Hokkaido.
0261 0
Anyone get to Arai when it was open? I hear that was pretty cool place. And that it's still standing there "sleeping".
BagOfCrisps 24
Ghost resort.
SKI 15
Always curious about that place and what might happen with those facilities just standing there....
muikabochi 208
Kayama Captain Coast has finally (finally) (finally) declared itself bust and dismantling (maybe). Oh to be vague. Anyway in the paper yesterday said that in their peak season they got over 70,000 guests. The last season they were open (year before last) that number was 15,000 people. The number 20 oku yen flying about as well. Kayama insists that last seasons close was "to prepare for a renewal opening". Yeah, I believe him!!!!! Wonder if they will take the lifts down. tokabochi 9
Never got there... though it doesn't look like I missed much.
