Saitaman 1
I was looking at the TVs over the weekend. Noticed there were no Samsung.... not selling Samsung tvs here in Japan or something?
Alexander L 80
Samsung have some really nice tvs, but after my first one, I'll give them a skip. Also them being number one has made them really really arrogant. Not for me lah.
best skier in hakuba 5
You know, I can't recall seeing a Samsung tv here.....
nagpants 1
Samsung have some really nice tvs, but after my first one, I'll give them a skip. What happened?
Alexander L 80
it was a top of the line TV and after 9 months a piece inside sparked, then smoked, then died. Under warranty they took it away and loaned me a much smaller, knackered, screen burnt, speaker tinned unit. My TV took 2 weeks to fix and return and hummed on start up (hum as in noise and not smell).
pie-eater 207
Well, that doesn't sound good.
Alexander L 80
not re-visiting Samsung.
pie-eater 207
Was it grungy who got a completely new set from Sony (?) when one broke, and it was effectively a bit upgrade too?
oblivion 5
This is funny Are Toshiba saying that you should sit just 1.6m from an 85" telly?
oblivion 5
And 1.1m from a 65" telly?
r45 4
Sure the TV sizes aren't cm?
grungy-gonads 54
Well, looks like a need to make a decision. The TV we have, the one Sony kindly gave to us as a replacement for one that broke 6 years ago....seems to have broken itself. No picture and no sound, so pretty useless. In a way, it will be fun having to choose a new telly.

Alexander L 80
Panasonic were convinced plasma technology was far better than LCD. So much so, they built 3 massive factories to build large plasmas. Subsequently, LCD and more OLED technologies have become cheaper to manufacture and in doing so have almost wiped the floor with the plasma camp. Can you hold on for another year or so? If so, then you're in the marvelous world of affordable 4K TVs. If not, there will be very cheap plasmas coming on soon.
grungy-gonads 54
Can I wait a year? I can't wait more than a few days!
grungy-gonads 54
6 years ago Is that good or bad? Seeing as though I have pretty much gone without buying a new big tv for 12 years, I'm not annoyed at all. In fact, rather looking forward to a new machine.
pie-eater 207
Cool. Tempted by 4K? The upscaling of Blu-Ray is pretty spectactular from what I saw.

muikabochi 208
I was checking out some of those huge 4K TVs at the weekend. The Sony one looks well wicked. As there's not much 4K content, I suppose the upgrading of Blu-Ray will be the main eye candy. Sure looked good. Actually they all do, I'd have any of them.

klingon 10
Is anyone actually filming in 4k? All of Hollywood? (?) Though you can't get it to your tv just yet
grungy-gonads 54
I think for now it will be the 55" Sony KDL-55W900A. Looked like a beautiful picture. Can get it for spot on 200K with 5 years insurance and delivery. Then, perhaps in a year or two, that can shuffle off to the bedroom to be replaced by a 4K. Going to run that past the lady tonight.
