benchy 0
I'm in the process of organising out my first Japan trip. I was wondering what is the best/fastest/cheapest way to get from Niseko to Hakuba. Thanks
Wizz 11
Might be wrong and I'm sure someone will pipe up but I would think this Niseko > Sapporo fly to Tokyo train to Nagano bus to Hakuba
Thundercat 60
bus: Niseko > Sapporo fly: Sapporo > Haneda train: Haneda > Nagano bus: Nagano > Hakuba Not sure about best, fastest, cheapest though. It'll take a long time and be pretty expensive anyway you go.
tripler 0
you could fly Sapporo to Matusmoto then get a train from Matsumoto to Hakuba. Fast train 1 hour, normal 1hr 45mins+/-. Don't know if there's a Matsumoto airport to station shuttle. Taxi would cost around 5000 yen. There is a normal bus (450 yen) but you might be waiting around for it. Regular train from Matsumoto is about 1000 yen, double for the fast one. The flight might cost around 20,000 yen but it depends a lot on how far ahead and which days you book it. All in all it should be quicker than going to Tokyo but no idea if it's cheaper.
thursday 1
why do you want to do that?
benchy 0
4 week boarding in japan, first 10 days in Niseko, rest in Hakuba, Shiga, and Nozawa.
thursday 1
then you'd want to save the best 'till last. Why not start on Honshu?
benchy 0
mmm yeah that’s what I first thought, but after a lot of discussion with my mate we decided to get the pain in the behind flight, train and bus trip out of the way first up rather then when we are 3 weeks down into our trip
thursday 1
that dun sound right. You're gonna get the same in either direction.

benchy 0
yeah sorry. long story short it was going to work out better for us to do Hokkaido first, even though it would have been nice the other way around.
benchy 0
has anyone done this and have a rough idea how much it cost all up?
blu 3
Approx costs are: Niseko-Chitose bus $25 Chitose-Narita using Jal Airpass $150 Narita-Tokyo (N'ex) & Tokyo-Nagano Shink and return $240 for JR East "Any 4 day" Rail Pass Nagano - Happo bus station $15 That's approximately $430. Otherwise there's an overnight bus from Tokyo.

They wanted to drop the Sapporo route because no one uses it but the government said No. This is a key link to ski Hakuba AND Niseko on the same trip, just like OP and... (No trouble getting at window seat!

skidaisuki 0
As they say, it depends on what passes (air & rail) that you will have in hand. The cheapest way would be to fly from Chitose (Sapporo Airport) to Haneda and then get a highway bus from Shinjuku Station Nishiguchi to Hakuba (about 4 hours), unless of course you have a JR Rail Pass, in which case obviously use the shinkansen from Tokyo Station to Nagano, then a one hour bus to Hakuba. Alternative & exotic routes if you have more time? What about taking the ferry from Tomakomai or Muroran to Niigata or Naoetsu, then local trains to Hakuba? People forget Japan has some great ferry services. SdS

best skier in hakuba 5
They built a shinkansen station in Hakuba overnight? Cool! The Shinkansen goes to Nagano Station, not Hakuba.

SKI 15
Trainspotter?!? Hardly. There's a huge difference between a shinkansen bullet train and a 'bit faster than usual' local train!
Tubby Beaver 209
I don't think the Shinkansen stops at Shinjuku either
BagOfCrisps 24
It doesn't. Even I know that. It's Tokyo and Ueno.
