Depends on who manufactures the parts - they might be the same part ie listed both as DDR2, or 1TB hdd, but would rather take some seagate hdd over a no name brand. For example, memory should be looking at corsair or kingston brands. no name brands may be cheaper, but they carry a lot of risk with them.
DumbStick 13
This question is causing problems. Perhaps I can be clearer, or someone could just give me a simple answer. If they use the same kind of memory, the same graphics card, the same processor - ie. the same specs, ie. made by the same people in the same factory on the same day on the same shift, etc.
klingon 10
All things being equal, I would generally say that Dell would come in cheaper than Sony, dumbstick.
RobBright 35
Then dell should be cheaper, as one of the world's biggest, if not the biggest, sellers of pc's, they are able to buy parts cheaper, thus in turn offering discounts to customers. But be weary of buying one with a Japanese o/s of vista, numerous friends who have owned one, have all made the same point of it being difficult, or nigh on impossible, to get the English language packs for it. TheOrange 0
If you have Vista Ultimate or 7 Ultimate, you can get the English OS packs.
RobBright 35
Yes, that's correct, but unless you do your research into the versions, it isn't explicitly said in the manuals according to my friends.
scouser 4
Someone I know has the Dell M6400 Covet. Cost something like 50man. Very fast, very high spec... and very orange.
pie-eater 207
Top tip - do the online configuration on the dell website, then phone them up. When I have done that in the past, I have received a lower price by phone.
muikabochi 208
I second that. You'll get a cheaper price by calling. Good luck.
wendy-cake 0
My b/f called and they offered him the same spec machine for 26000 yen less than the online configuration. Definitely worth doing!
thursday 1
what is b/f?
Curt 1
Boyfriend? I always thought the online would be cheaper. Curious to hear it's the other way round.
klingon 10
I'm not sure if it is always that way but if you buy it is definitely work a call. They might also give you a special deal and ask you to pay BY TOMORROW or something like that.
HelperElfMissy 42
wonder if it makes a difference if you call whether you are male or female as well... Well known that men get sharper deals on cars.
thursday 1
that's 'cos women should be discouraged to take to the roads.
TheOrange 0
Just to add to the Dell talk - I agree. Give them a call. They might say it's an offer thats only valid 'today' but there's a decent chance of a saving.
DumbStick 13
I did just that and indeed they gave me a fairly big chunk off a quote. 310,000 yen online 285,000 yen if I buy now over the phone and pay now Not a bad saving indeed.
RobBright 35
You could build your own for that price.
DumbStick 13
No I couldn't.
RobBright 35
Please enlighten us as to why not?
DumbStick 13
Because I have no idea about electronics and assembling computers - and also have absolutely no interest in spending lots of time trying to learn such things.
grungy-gonads 54
I'm sure people can make them a fair bit cheaper themselves. However, I will happily pay Dell or whoever to put my computers together for me and send it in a nice box. The idea of spending time constructing one myself is unappealing at best. RobBright 35
It takes two hours tops. Have assembled 6 in the last year - and quickest I have done it in is 30mins. The first time is the most daunting but the manuals nowadays are so clear and precise it's difficult if not impossible to cock up if you follow them.
grungy-gonads 54
Rob - why is it that you seem incapable of simply accepting that some people are, unlike yourself, not knowledgeable about this kind of thing and would not have a clue how to start doing this? How long would it take you to do a filling in someones gob? It takes my dentist about 10 minutes.
Jynxx 4
Hey, g-g It's not really something to do about knowledge as most people assume assembling computers are - It's rather like Lego. If you were a kid who has built plastic model planes and that and thought it was too finicky with too many parts, well, this is not. Most people don't have any idea why or how a computer works but they still use it and assembling one is just an extension of that. And you get more of what you like - Unless you want a super-duper Mac. As to get a clue on how to start doing it ... ever heard of google search? my suggestion - don't skimp on cheap box with shitty power supply
