JA2340 16
Yeah, but us big boofy blokes don't ... a) scare that easily, or slide off chairs that easily.
HelperElfMissy 42
Me either JA ... me either. But if you are a big boof and you find yourself on aa chair with a little kid....PLEASE lower the safety bar.
thursday 1
Originally Posted By: Mamabear Its a real issue for kids though. Two examples, both with my youngest. 1. We are generally slow putting the bar down taking the time check we are not going to smash it down on anyone. 2. On a lift but almost at the end station - just about to come over the safety net. People in front stacked it and the lifty stopped the lift, but it stopped suddenly. Again the little ones butt slipped forward. Because he was hanging on to the bar he pushed backwards and just got a little heart starter of a shock however without a bar he would have been free falling. Nah, he would've been catapulted forward onto the net like a trapez artist.

Go Native 70
I doubt it, I weight in excess of 100kg. Would take one mighty gust to dislodge me.
Tubby Beaver 209
I use the bar all the time, I don't feel the need to show my manliness by leaving the bar up. Big bruisers can fall just as easily as fairy nancy boys....I'd rather be safe and I keep the bar down at all times
Go Native 70
It has nothing to do with manliness...just perceived risk. I perceive very little risk.
2pints-mate 0
Most lifts hardly feel unsafe with the safety bar up. Well, I don't thin so anyway. I'm ok either way, sometimes it's a good thing to lean on.
foreversnow 5
Some of the lifts don't have bars so what is the difference with a lift that doesn't have a bar to one that does and not pulling it down.

thursday 1
no question, others on the chair, bar down. No question, me on the chair alone? Bar down. Somewhere to rest the skis and not fall off. I need the bar, I'm pissed all the time.
iiyamadude 6
I don't really think about it. But if it comes down, it comes down.
gareth_oau 2
In thredbo, you absolutely must use the bar, and if you dont, then for your own safety, they have snipers to take you out!
treasure 0
On my own, don't really care if bar up or down. When with anyone else, especialy strangers, always bar down. Never know what stupid thing some other numbskull will do and take me with them. Not very trusting am i. When kids are on the lift..it's a no brainer. Have thought about a helmet for a while, and now am going to wear one. I wear one when riding a pushbike and motorbike, so is skiing any safer? This year a friend fell on softish snow and ended up in wally world for about two minutes after what looked like a very soft fall. You just never know i guess.

Japan law states that - detachable cable lifts require a safety bar. single cable lifts do not.. quite ridicuously it doesnt depend on height, winds, etc...

yoroshiku onegai shimasu 2
This was a curious 2 man lift with absolutely no hint of safety bar. It was like one of those one man trays, but for two.
