damian 0
What is your gut reaction, no research allowed: Would you expect airport security to allow you to carry 30m of rope in your hand luggage? (In my instance I am thinking about UK airport, international flight. You can think about any airport, any flight). I found out the answer last weekend.
bushpig 0
nope But not cos I agree. I just don't think they'd let you...
fb_steve 0
I bet you can't cause of some farce rule created in the wake of terrorism. But I bet they still hand out metal forks in business class!
sakebomb 0
Can't see why not! Would 30m of rope fit into your "hand luggage"?
ncorrenti 0
It depends on the airport, some are more relaxed than others. I've had countless cans of deodorant confiscated as well as ballpoint pens, eyebrow tweezers and - most bizarrely - a bookmark.
damian 0
I suppose the answer is pretty obvious. They said no, but refused to tell me why. I didn't make a scene at all, just asked if they would let me. When they said no I asked what nasty things they had anticipated a bad person would do with rope. For the first time in my life I had the foresight to ask first rather than find out the hard way (I fly each weekend with only a carry on bag). And yes, it fits in hand luggage. It is only 7mm and supposed to be compact. Nicole, your book mark must have been particulary nasty. They even pick on book worm nerds!
sunrise 0
The thing is, spud, you have to admit you ARE a dangerous looking character, and as such you have to expect discrimination when carrying ropes at airports.

alferg 0
i once had a roll of gaffers tape in my hand luggage - was stopped by security & had to check it in. perhaps they were concerned that i'd take the pilot hostage & threaten to stick the tape to his hairy arse, then pull it off really quickly! ouch! mattlucas 0
Japanese friend of mine wasn't allowed to take his avy probe on the plane out of Spokane Washington last winter They thought it could be used as a spear
soobi 0
i had a similar experience before xmas on a domestic flight in oz - i was told that the "string" on some presents in an open bag be removed and checked in by the security neanderthal (in reality string was 6mm nylon rope). the reason was because it could be used to restain people. the stupid thing was that they didn't pick up the 12m ball i was carrying out of sight in my other piece of hand luggage (this was even x-rayed)! lets face it - a security risk is a line that can apply to anything! alferg 0
you guys are hilarious - i am nearly wetting my pants here!! the voice is my mate Mitchee-san, the tele-ski & shooting-video-while-skiing guru. he is quite an excitable chap i will endevour to continue the tradition of "porn-like commentary" this season in nagano & in case anyone else is interested, they are referring to this video from my video gallery . some other mates of mine (who also work in animation) took to using that line when approving of each others work (aahhhh, niiice!). it's pretty classic.
