  1. Quote: I think that foreign tourists should take the blinkers off and look at what the whole of Japan has to offer. You're right - meaning not just Niseko AND increasingly Hakuba. They're the 2 big words/cliches aren't they. Tons of other places.
  2. I don't think you would struggle at all. Totally not a bit worry. Have a spirit of adventure, perhaps book with a place that has at least a bit of English-speaking ability - and just enjoy it. That's what I say. Nozawa is a great resort and you'll see in the reviews on this site etc that it is one of the most popular and you don't often hear people say negative things about it. Good choice of terrain, usually very good snow, nice little village. I live fairly close by in Iiyama city, and Kijimadaira, Shiga Kogen and Madarao are all fairly close to me too. (Might be worth mentioni
  3. All "if"s right now, depends on Mr Weather and how he co-operates. But basically, yes, a fair risk. But we can hope!
  4. I sure wouldn't want to be driving around in normal tyres all winter. Apart from the fact that driving is easier with the snow tyres, I think it's pretty irresponsible to live somewhere like that all season on normal tyres.
  5. I haven't done Niseko but I can see the above certainly being the case. It will for sure be very different. But Myoko is a good mountain. I'm also curious as to why you are trading those two against each other?
  6. 6 days at Myoko sounds good to me, you'll be able to explore it all with that. You might want to try Madarao and Tangram as sanjo suggests. You could get over the Shiga Kogen - and see the monkeys too - but it would be a long day. But you're young (?!) so go for it! You could also give Nozawa Onsen a go as well.
  7. Myoko is a nice mountain. 3 resorts - Akakura, Ikenotaira and Suginohara on the main mountain with a few smaller places dotted around. How long will you be around?
  8. Been like that here too, though I haven't been able to get out and enjoy it at all.
  9. As long as it is fun excitement and not the crashing kind!
  10. So whos on snow tyres already? I suppose those up in Hokks might be, still a bit early here. I think last year it was 2nd week of December before I got it done. Always dangerous when the snow falls and people haven't changed, my friend who works at a car shop says it is always good for their business!
  11. I wonder what we can take from this guy That guy with the eggs on his head probably is telling us that he.... likes eggs. Or something.
  12. Nozawa is hoping for 22nd November. Probably up top only if they can.
  13. There's a tiny one at my town Iiyama. Very small. Then there is one at Nozawa Onsen, though I think it is only used for competition. And of course the one at Happo that was used for the Olympics. They are the ones I know about, can't recall seeing any others.
  14. Won't it (surely) improve from the current lows, he asks perhaps rather naively?
