  1. the pixies are coming to japan. i want to see the pixies. but i live in the country. i'm going to have to: a) leave school at lunchtime, catch a bus to nagoya & stay in a hotel for the night or b)catch a bus to tokyo, stay at a friends' place then take the following day off school. what do you think? either way i'm going to be paying quite a bit on top of the 7000yen ticket price. but which option do you think is best? & does anyone know any reasonable places to stay in nagoya?
  2. interesting. wish i'd read this before i ate my nashi & grapes for dessert. funny what was said about guava fights, my bro's & i used to have mango fights back home, all i can remember is how stinky they were. & my nana & all her neighbours have persimmon trees, wish i liked them as she was forever giving me buckets full of them.
  3. i love yoshitomo nara, and know that the mori art gallery in roppongi hills sells all kinda of nara goods - postcards, books, ash trays, clocks, etc. the highlight of my trip to roppongi hills, i must say!
  4. has anyone tried 'agepan' in japan? i saw it in at a matsuri last nite, apparently it used to be served for school lunches here. it's just deep-fried breadrolls with flavour, isn't it?
  5. what type of riding? hm.. anything but i only started boarding last winter, after a few years of skiing. so i spent my days trying to get up to an acceptable level while most of my friends were kickin' ass through the trees. i have big plans for this season though! (one of the reasons i'm living here in the country is to be close to the snow, & try to improve as much as possible before 2006) wish me luck..
  6. how do we apply for the happy7 pass? that's different to the hakuba link gamera gave, right?
  7. i wear mittens that have detachable polar fleece gloves inside. sure it's hard to do stuff when yr wearing mittens, but what do you want to do, anyway? the only intricate work i ever attempted was digging coins outta my pockets for the vending machines, & even then everyone else had taken their gloves off. mittens rock. i had to search like crazy to find some though, as everyone told me that mittens just aren't in fashion anymore. i didn't care about fashion, i was all for warmth. (i ended up getting a --don't laugh-- roxy pair. i came all the way from australia just to buy
  8. wow. maybe everyone should enter, including those from o/s, but make them promise to put it up on-sell it when they're done? or aren't people that nice?
  9. swallowing. swallowing. swallowing. not sure what swalling a seed would involve?
  10. 47 is probably the most popular spot for boarders - & i think there's a park there, too. it's also nice as it's connected to goryu, which gives you a wide variety of terrain. yanaba is a bit further away but everyone said it was the best park - i think there's not too many trails though, most people go there to practise on the rails etc. happo is great but some people complained that it isn't steep enough? the patrol can be pretty strict about going through the trees, if they catch you they'll take yr details & threaten to take yr pass if yr caught again. anyone kn
  11. this is the actual page for the adult ticket application. get someone to help you fill in your name, address, phone number, employer, etc. & good luck ! http://www.hakuba.jp/happy7/form_2006happy7_a.html
  12. i'm guessing something to do with cheap imports from taiwan/philipines? not sure, but damn they're tasty (i grew up on aussie bananas which had no flavour, these actuallly taste like banana) am going grape crazy this week, my next-doorn neighbour keeps giving them to me (she brought me two bunches today, both kyouho /kyohou? & very tasty). here's a question - how come we can't eat the skin of japanese grapes? i love sultana grapes back home - seedless, sweet & easy to eat. over here, i'm still getting used to popping the inner flesh into my mouth, tossing out the

  14. "what's so bad about Australians anyway? They're basically just like Canadians except without all the clothing" funniest thing i've read all day.
  15. shinydiscoball _ stupid question but have you read dan brown? seems to be working out for everyone else around the world. my brother likes grisham & also likes matthew reilly, some young aussie guy. but i've not read his work so don't blame me, okay?
  16. pash hair. not sure what it means in the US, but in australia, to pash is to french kiss. but we used to say it about 15 years ago.
  17. yamakashi - wow. man.. do you think she realize what you were saying? at least she offered you an english version. i asked my guy again & he just chuckled at me. & yr lucky she came by at night! mine has come at 7am on saturday & 7.30am on friday (the public holiday)
  18. gamera- how do you count rabbits? i said 'ni-hiki' today, & one of my students laughed at me.. but i can't remember what the correct counter is. & i didn't start as an english teacher, so why the hell am i doing it now?
  19. yeah, we've gotta do it. i'm guessing that's why the ad/posters are in english, too? i remember a few years back in oz when i did the census, my roommate & i thought we were such rebels for stating our religion as 'jedi'. *blushes*
  20. yeah, this sucks. i grew up with agents 86&99. i guess i never realized how old the episodes were when i was watching them?
  21. i teach elementary school. whereas once i used to be a good AET & did stuff like cleaning with the kids, i now use that time to catch up on my reading. slack, i know. but i figure it's crucial in order to maintain my sanity in a small town with few english speakers. any suggestions for good books? if it's vaguely popular/classic my library probably has it.. & nope, not kiddie books. i'm working through raymond chandler, done jd salinger & murakami, next stop is probably nabokov?
  22. my boyfriend's ex was a Hungarian gal, incredibly beautiful & blessed with the name Anita Kiss. When money got tight she went into stripping. Possibly the first stripper not in need of a stage name.
  23. "moninoki wont let you rent unless you stay at the hotel" my friends were the rental staff there over winter & i'm 99.9% sure anyone can rent from them. but occasionally the stock ran out & they had to get stuff in from spicy.
  24. any advice for vodafone? i downloaded a couple but they sound really tinny & crap, a friend of mine on docomo has ringtones that sound like real mp3s. anyone know about how to download the good ones?
