  1. The other side is that up, they might bend under the weight of a huge dump. In most cases wouldn't they come upstuck as you defrost the screen anyway?
  2. This was mentioned in another thread and thought it deserved it's own. I have heard so many opinions on this and it seems that no one can agree. So here goes:
  3. It depends on the navigation system. All the ones I've used use different phrases. Just teach her migi and hidari and tell her to look at the pictures that come up on the screen.
  4. Will check out Totoro but he never watches TV so I don't know much about it. Will have to investigate. Tsondaboy - are you a Studio Jibly fan yourself Another friend suggested "Shake a Tail Feather" by Ray Charles so that's going on there. Have also had Kylie suggestions but not sure if I can subject myself to that. Beatles will be good, thanks Spook. Anymore non-kid music ideas?
  5. Great mum's on both sides of my family. Really lucky there. ...And I hope MMT won't be posting such threads in the future after what he just put me through these last two days. Whole fam came down with a stomach bug and at the lowest point I was sitting on the toilet, puking in a bowl with MMT sitting on my lap, wrapped in a towel from his bath opening his bowels on my leg! (Just when you thought the birth story was about as gross as it could get!)
  6. The parents & in-laws are getting photobooks from Mini Me Tarzan. There is a cool little site called Blurb where you can make your own books and then they print them for you. I've gotta buy the parents something & Me Tarzan'll sort out the in-laws from us. Happy Birthday farquah
  7. MB, you should look into expatexpress.com when ordering things from the US. It works out really well for Japan and they are experts on shipping so they always seem to be able to give me better quotes that my friends can by buying stuff and posting it on.
  8. Best here I think. The extra link from inside general snow talk is a help too.
  9. Thanks for the ideas. Please keep them coming. Yep, Mr Wiggles it doesn't even have a headphone socket, just a little speaker at the back and the volume doesn't go up very high.
  10. So Mini Me Tarzan is getting an MP3 player for Christmas and I have to choose two hours of music to put on it. Apart from his favourite nursey rhymes I need some specific song suggestions. He seems to like most music and even jigs his shoulders up and down at the music that plays when the train doors are about to close. Upbeat, suitable lyrics and a wide variety of genres, ages. Here's a pic of the MP3 to inspire you! Thanks a lot

  12. Confusing to put it here. I think it's better where you had it at first directly under snow talk, with equal status to general snow talk and avalanche & BC. It creates balance with the off topic travel section too.
  13. It's cold enough. There are loads of sunny days and if your moving (or carrying a 10kg baby up a hill ) you'd be okay in a T-shirt but most of the time I wear a winter coat or sweater & down vest. Cold in the evenings and sometimes ice on the windows in Jan/Feb. TB is probably right about rarely dipping below 10 at midday but in the evening/morning my car thermometer is usually between about plus 5 and minus 2. I think Tokyo is a bit warmer than where I am though (Kamakura side of Yokohama).
  14. It's fine to wash Gortex. Use a gentle detergent, soap flakes or something specialised product like the ones Nikwax make. If you don't wash it, the pores clog and it becomes less effective. Tumble drying on low can help to reactivate the waterproofing. Spraying reduces the breathability - you'll need to do it eventually but probably not after at least the first few washes. Down stuff had to be washed in soap flakes or some kind of specialised stuff. I don't think you can tumble dry it but not sure. Probably would be okay on a low cycle. Never heard of anyone wanting to wash a tent.
  15. What's wrong with a cookie jar that moos? Personally I'd prefer that to diamonds & expensive perfume - I hate that kind of stuff. MB, your second point is right, as long as it's something thoughtfully chosen by the giver, I'd be happy.
  16. I like it too. I wasn't sure at first but actually it's better - and makes it easier to find info on places.
  17. Nice pic Indo. I was taking to my mum last night about lifestyles of different generations and young enough to use a car seat but still have an ipod is kind of what we were taking about. MMT is getting a Playskool MP3 for Christmas too! Congrats Jiblet! Got any pics to post?
