  1. Well done Scouser Let's posting here if you are a winner!
  2. It's all I've been hearing about in phone calls and emails from friends.
  3. You must have got more than us this time. There was snow and sleet last night but nothing stuck.
  4. Nice pics. Love the car park one and good to put a face to a handle!
  5. This thread is confusing. Just realised FT was talking to Mama Bear not Big Dogg so now MB's reply makes (slightly) more sense. Still not sure what's going on though so going back to work now
  6. Mamabear are you critiscising FT or Big Dogg? I didn't get what you mean. I thought Big Dogg was saying that sometimes the signs are there when they don't need to be and made some comment on what the patrol should and shouldn't be doing. Then FT said he wss an idiot for posting that?
  7. According to Japan Today the two "instructors" were university lecturers.
  8. Instructors took them to a closed area?! Unbelievable Why would instructors be teaching beginners that it's okay to ignore the signs even if the area had been safe and closed for another reason?
  9. A lot of the motorways were closed today too. It took my boss two and a half hours to make the 50 min journey to work cos he had to do it on the regular roads which were really crowded and blocked with accidents. I think its a panic issue, (rather than an inability to clear the snow or grit) with closing the highways - they know people are not used to snow and black ice so they close the highways in the hope that more people will use public transport and reduce the risk of accidents.
  10. I heard on the radio this morning that there were 180-odd injuries in Tokyo yesterday. I wonder how many of them were wearing high heeled boots. Soubs - it might have worked but the car park is full of those blocks to stop you reversing too far back so it would have been a bumpy ride. I don't know where the TV is getting 7cms in Yokohama from. There was definitely more than that here. There were cars stuck and sliding around on the hill up to Nana Tarzan's house this morning. Someone else has booked the company snowmobile from this evening so I hope it melts before then cos I don't
  11. If I want to take the Shink from Shin Yokohama to Shinagawa the basic charge is 400yen. Then I have to add either 2190 for a reserved seat or 840yen for an unreserved seat. I'm guessing the answer is no but if you stand do you still need to pay the 840yen?
  12. Well according to JMA there are weather advisories due to "heavy snow, gale, snow accretion and high waves" More snow tonight, Fine becoming cloudy tomorrow. Not sure if you are going to get your superbowl snow day Okemo.
  13. They are great pics ianbc. Thanks for sharing. Does that sign mean Patrol are not allowed in those trees

That warmed me up! No need to go to the gym today then. Nope just back inside from 4 hours of snow clearing. I think I practically single handedly cleared the car park while most of the other staff stood around in their high heeled boots complaining about how cold it was and moving spoonfuls of snow from the places they
  15. Yep, I work weekends and have Wednesdays off. Most people got here but a bit late. The trains are running ok and the buses are all using chains cos the roads haven't been cleared at all. Quite a few customers made it too - the main car park is half full. Either they decided that buying new glasses was important enough to negotiate the roads or they wanted to enjoy playing driving in the snow. I saw a few people out on scooters this morning too .
  16. 7:30 am Nana Tarzan called to say she couldn't drive in the snow and pick up Mini Me Tarzan. No problem, I said - I'll drive him over. 8:15 am Get in my rear-wheel drive car and negotiate my way out of the car park and down to the traffic lights. Car sliding all over the place. Bit scary. 8:20 am Give up and pull into work (in my car) to get the key for the company snowmobile (well 4x4 car with winter tyres). 8:30 am Try to drive my car to the company snowmobile's car park (3 min drive from office). Get stuck going up a gentle slope and have to slide back down onto
  17. You can see if you have won here. My student got first prize! It was a card addressed to the company though so instead of getting himself a nifty TV he is taking all his staff out for dinner and getting the Mac for his office.
  18. That is a strange cat. Love the pics Mantas, especially concentration in the fingers!
  19. You can get normal baked beans from the Foreign Buyers Club. They closed the Britshop section down but I think they still have the beans. I might well have poached egg on toast for dinner, that other thread has got me thinking about eggs!
  20. No test just that the one we have applied for (two min walk from my house, new place with a big playgroud and combined with a nursery school so he doesn't have to move to a new place when he's three) is really popular. Everyone starts there when they are a few months old and their parents go back to work so the one year old class he needs is already full with kids moving up. They had 100 applications for 6 places in his year.
  21. There is a supermarket in Naka Meguro that has Marmite. Haven't seen it anywhere else.
  22. Thank you everyone for all the nice comments. I like this forum. Uncle Indo, the gear was great, thank you - I was very warm.
