  1. Nice. I want to get my sorry little ass up there at somestage. Thought about staying in Honshu and trying to get a bar job or something. That way there may be the option of getting down to visit friends in Tokyo occasionally. That or the other way around...get a job in the big smoke and head up in to the snow when I can. hmmmm....decisions, decisions. First things first get some friggin' cash!!!
  2. wonder if I got any? I haven't yet received any... Maybe I have to send a few more!! I'm sexy, are you there?? oops...this isn't private! doh!
  3. You only have to live here for a short while to work out that they don't really do anything until a serious offense or accident has occurred. How many people do you know who drink and drive here? (the blood alcohol content has to be zero) The speed limit is 40 but the accepted speed limit is 60. Happy for this as I get a car next week. I just hope it can reach 60 kms per hour!! Well, I like it in a way cause I think my state in Australia has become a police-state. But there are just some things which should be taken care of. Indosnm pointed out an important one. Bosuzoku r

You've got to get the Japanese technique down and slurp it down faster. I don't think they crush the bones, just boil them for a day or two. And I think it's pork, haven't tried chicken ramen, sounds like a Thai dish.
  5. Somewhere in the pacific...Vanuatu I think. The biggest sandhill ever. looks fun.
  6. Gamera, it's pretty easy for us gaijin to get a job in the teaching industry. Even though the market has downturned a little there seems to be heaps of jobs still out there. It's just when you want to get into something else where you can use your J-go you need to be qualified for something or be prepared to work for a pittance. Telleboy, you got it sussed. Any beautiful and energetic young women out there want a guy to play house-husband for them??? PM me. Me PM you.
  7. Bought a wire in Akihabara in Tokyo (900 yen from Denki-town). Seems to work ok.
  8. Soup stock is the secret flavour behind a lot of delicacies. Maybe you shouldn't look in the kitchen. You can't beat a good tonkotsu-ramen. My two cents.

And what kind of work did you do? Sounds like just the life I want for next winter. Where'd you find the job? online? Partying in the dorm and onsens daily, hmmm, wonder how much the two mixed? Family onsen perhaps?

I've read as much as I can but would like to know more by someone who's been there! I think you may have stayed on Ishikawa-shima and day tripped from there? ANy more info would be great thanks! Ishigaki-jima...kana? Yeah, we got a flight/hotel deal and stayed on the main Ishigaki. Can't remember what the price was but that'll change as to where you are. Try Okinawa Tourist Service http://www.ranrantour.jp/ They offer pretty cheap deals, but it's all in Japanese.

  13. cheers Indo, sorry I didnt ask you personally, its just, err, well, i dont know you very well.
  14. The Mamushi, it looks like a Habu snake. Same family? Yeah, Yamakashi, I'm in Fukuoka, Kyushu. Where is 'the gaping creek'?
  15. Pretty inept at the old quote system, let alone the double quote gig. Quote: Originally posted by woywoy: Hey flipside, where is Iriomote-jima? Well, it's somewhere in the vicinity between Okinawa island and Taiwan. Very island. We took a plane from Naha (about an hour) then stayed in a hotel on one island (the name isn't coming to me) and did day trips to other islands including the mostly national park Iriomote
  16. ooops. I meant to say, Yamakashi, what the hell are they??

  18. Yes, back home we get in and get out as soon as the shift is over. My life is me, not my job. The job is just what we do so we can live in the system and buy nice expensive playtime toys (like snowboards)
  19. might try the premiere. Can you still compress and make VCDs with it?
  20. Yeah takes a bit to get used to the system....haven't got there yet! I dont have DVD capabilities so have to try and work out how to squeeze it to a CD. Any hints?
  21. Went down to Iriomote-jima last summer. Saw mud-skippers, crazy crabs, swam with tropical fish (many scorpion-fish), had lunch with a Habu snake (Japans only deadly snake), many crazy insects (love the tonbo), nearly pee-ed on a Habu snake (did I mention it's Japans only deadly snake?) True wildlife expedition.
  22. Just wondered how the ex-teachers got into a different field of work in Japan. How did you bust out? Did you need heaps of experience (or just cash??) Do you enjoy working in the real Japanese world of employment. Sometimes I think us teachers have it easy but still... ...looking for the pre-school exit.
