  1. Anyone off to Hakuba this weekend? Besides the usual good riding, sounds like there will be some solid partying going on up there. Trying to figure out the best/cheapest way up there. Currently considering shink, overnight bus, car rental (if we can)... Anyone take the overnight? would you recommend it?
  2. Check out adaware... posted in that link above, and switch to a popup blocking browser, if you're still using MS Internet explorer. I would reccomend either the mozilla browser, or mozilla firebird (their next gen browser). Ive used firebird for the last 10 months or so and havent seen a popup since.
  3. Have had docomo for the last year and a half, but considering switching to AU or Vodafone because docomo is just so damn expensive... anyone having good experiences with either?
  4. stoke: did you have the same problem with your last board? I don't know if this is too obvious or not, but.. it might just have to do with being too stiff. I'm a big fan of bombing down board flat, but even when you ride flat you still may have to make small adjustments on either edge to keep yourself from losing it....
  5. When I'm busy... I work all-out 10 hour days, but I'm only busy in short spans of time (bout 2-3 weeks at a time). My normal level of productivity finds me at about 1 to 2 hours of actual work in an 8 hour span of time. The rest is swallowed up by instant messaging, forums, and my new super-efficient time-killer: blogging .
  6. New york. Tried to introduce him to new york pizza, new york bagels, some BBQ at Virgils in times square... italian food in little italy... ...but... according to him: "mazui"
  7. freakin everything! went back home with a japanese friend last year, and his summary of the food was in a word, "mazui."
  8. sure.. you can have him. you guys gotta get your pride whenever you can...
  9. My last apt had tatami, and I liked having the experience, but given the choice, I wouldn't go for another one agian. Everything you own ends up smelling like the stuff, 'specially if you like sprinkling your clothes all over the floor... which I'm a big fan of. On the other hand, they definitely keep your room warmer in the winter than hardwood.
  10. Just finished Vernon God Little by DBC Pierre. It's touted as being the catcher in the rye for this generation, although I didnt really get that vibe. It had me cracking up, fetching strange looks on my train ride to work. highly reccommended. I`m now a good ways into Twelve by Nick Mcdonell. Its a novel about the life of high school age kids living in manhattan today (drugs, sex, crime... the whole nine). Had to really get used to the writing style at first, but its got a really quick pace, and is pretty good so far...

  12. why dont you worry about cleaning your jacket's glove inserts first. Your jacket smells like it'll get up and go snowboarding on it's own.
  13. had my first day out with the new helmet (Burton RED skycap), and it was pretty good. Didnt feel heavy at all and kept my head toasty (..in fact almost too hot while hiking). Great confidence booster.. Only drawback is that the earpads started to hurt my ears towards the end of the day, but with a little re-adjustment it was alright.
  14. "pretending"??? thats the thanks I get? last time I shield you from a giggling crowd. danz' review of the hike puts it in better light than I would. My choice 1st day of the season doesnt include a snow-shoeless 2 1/2 hour hike up a mountain in knee deep powder. By the time I got to the top, I didnt have the juice to enjoy the 30 second powder run (which does look very avalanche prone... btw). Perhaps if it was further into my season i'd be in shape and have the stamina to pull off a hike like that... but I'll never do it again. In spite of the "death march" it was fun just be
  15. This cracked me up: Ishihara, on China's space program: Speaking at a hotel in Ibusuki, Kagoshima Prefecture, to support a candidate in Sunday's House of Representatives election, Ishihara said: "The Chinese are ignorant, so they're overjoyed. That (spaceship) was an outdated one. If Japan wanted to do it, we could do it in one year." Article
  16. Just because we dont sent men to mars doesnt mean we cant still look for fossilised evidence of life with comparitively dirt-cheap probes like NASA is doing now...
  17. tee hee hee. 3 trillion in the hole. Sure... lets go to the moon, and mars! On top of that spend $1.3 billion to promote heterosexual marriage! how in the hell did these guys hijack the label conservative, and get to keep it after all??? sweet jeebus, I can't wait till he's gone...
  18. Agreed. dims, crazyski... I took a science course at uni which covered this, and according to my professor (if I remember correctly) standard soap alone is enough to kill bacteria. and as far as antibiotics go... A good buddy of mine who I grew up with, since he was a little kid, always took antibiotics when he'd get even a little cold. His folks are doctors, and there were always drug samples laying around his house. Now in his mid 20s, he gets sick all the time, and when he does get sick, he HAS to take antibiotics, because IMO his immune system is weak from not doing the work i
  19. My body clock is all screwed up right now after spending 2 weeks home in NY adjusting to the time there, and then returning to tokyo. Spent this past week shuffling around like a corpse passing out at 9 and waking up at 5am. Friday night, passed out shortly after midnight, and woke up at 7:30... saturday night!! I coulnt believe it! I think I slept for like 17 hours. Im crap when it comes to jetlag... just cant seem to get over it well...

  22. There's also the ender-theory: That you hit your head more when wearing a helmet (due to the added wieght your neck has to handle when you fall). The helmet I got isn't heavy at all, but I feel a significant difference compared to wearing a beanie. I guess i'll get used to it tho...
  23. speaking of helmets... also got me a burton r.e.d. skycap, on sale. This'll be my 1st season riding with a helmet, and I wonder if it will cause more injuries that it will prevent...
