  2. Hope it's not like the Youngs Chocolate Stout. That tastes like they got a thin not overly good stout and put cheap chocolate flavouring in it. I have had good ones from a small brewery that had coco nibs in the fermentor and it was much better.
  3. but surely if you believe that you are safe from receiveing a head injury without a helmet then you are also safe from having to pay for a head injury and the loss of insurance cover is then a moot point.
  4. So if all the non-helmet wearers are indeed safe without helmets then why all the concern about an insurance company choosing not to insure you for head injury?
  5. People who dont wear helmets obviously think that the risk of brain injury is sufficiently remote not to warrant wearing a helmet. Surely it follows that they would also think that the risk of paying for treatment for a brain injury is also so remote that its not worth wearing a helmet. "I'll risk my brain to ski without a helmet, but I wont risk having to pay to live with a head injury, that would just be too dangerous". That must be what the insurance company thinks that the consumers believe.

  7. Lots of buildings collapsed incl. the cathedral and "many" fatalities. 2 busses buried in rubble etc.. Way worse than the last one.
  8. Japanese generally have the same vowel sounds as Maori so it shouldn't take too much work to teach a NZ'er japanese pronunciation. (unless they are especially white old and from the south island.)
  9. Quote: Sadly, there appears to be many snow enthusiasts on this forum who outwardly respect area's ski patrol staff, but disregard closures & play the 'dumb gaijin' nevertheless, forever searching ways to get their lines in without getting busted for it, often with a complacent attitude to personnel responsibility to their own and friends safety. Many!? Name two people who meet all the criteria of your description. best do it in the A Winging Poms thread so as not to get this one too far off its more important topic.
  10. I go with the middle ground i.e try to stay out of sight when exiting and rejoining the trails to minimise the chance of being seen by patrol. When busted appear contrite say sorry and resist further offending for the rest of the day and they wont take your pass (important when you have a season pass). It really annoyed me when I showed the new american to town my fav spots and he made no effort to hide his activities, was smart to the patrol and would ski away when busted and continue to ski out of bounds immediately afterward in full view of the patrol. The perfect way to motivate th
  11. Did you make them? If so are lots of the scenery shots pans across still photos or do you have some way of making the vid camera super smooth?
  12. That last one is pretty well done.. more of a scenery vid that a snowboarding one though.
  13. Sounds like you crash because you loose your confidence rather than lack of ability. You need to find a nice safe place to practice getting used to going fast. Find a good sized hill with a long flat runout where you can just go straight(ish) and you dont have to worry about speed control because the long runout. Pick a suitable point and straight line it. Next time go a little higher etc.. It's called the highway effect and gets you used to going fast, then when you go back to normal speed you feel like you are going slow and that builds your confidence enough to go a little faster.
  14. I'll second MikePow's motion. Have a quick low quality version people can have a quick look at to see if its any good - and a link to the best one to view if you think it would benifit from higher quality. As someone who makes the odd movie it is a bit sad to see the images carefully captured reduced to moving blocks. But not all the movies I make deserve high quality or need it to get the idea of whats going on, hence the low quality option.
  15. I have been downloading and watching a bit of beer TV lately, so far I have watched The Beer Hunter, classic 80's BBC series Brew Masters, Discovery Channel show about Dogfish Head. A little bit American OTT but quite entertaining. Oz and James Drink to Britan, 2 guys going around drinking beer the UK and being a little bit annoying. All worth a watch.. Does anyone know of any other beer related TV worth watching?
  16. Get some of that cream pathologists rub under their noses when they perform an autopsy.
  17. Smostyn, I would say you are after a private lesson since there are specific things you want. If you go the group lesson the others in the group may just want to learn to ski and that is best done lapping the same run. Go the full day private early in your trip and learn something on the first morning then get guided around the hill in the arvo practicing what you learned in the morning.
  18. Must have been going slow to end up with an ambulance behind... Where I was ambulances got around with sirens and lights blazing, but dont go a km over the speed limit. It was more likely that you would get caught in a line of traffic stuck behind an ambulance doing 50km (the speed limit) on a road everyone ususlly does 70-80km on.
  19. Does anyone know if Sukayu onsen are still doing the guiding thing up there or did the fatalities put them off? And if they are, have they started using beacons yet?
  20. whats the agro about? Tlen is offering free advice to anyone who wants (but only if they express a desire to know) and the other guy is actually offering to show people around. 2 great offers for anyone who actually wants to go. but they are being attacked. ?? people are strange...
  21. It is a place that you need to know your way around a little bit to enjoy, because lots of the time you will have to feel your way around trying to keep track of where you are in your head. Once you get to the tree line, a 100m or so below the top of the ropeway, the vis clears up because of the trees and assuming you found your way to the right spot then the fun starts. If you go the wrong way you could end up having to do a little walking (through deep snow) to get out again. Getting a guide to show you a few spots that are accessable from the ropeway on the first day will greatl
  22. Mittens are fine with poles another vote for the Hestra 3 finger gloves - they are the perfect winter glove and when (if) my pair wear out I will just buy another pair. As with any decent winter glove though you need seperate spring gloves.
  23. I heard that geto kogen aren't having night skiing anymore and they may be cloasing down completely sometime soon.
  24. The area you are after is Kanda Far too bigger price range to really say... I found that the original prices were not that great, expensive even, but they are great at discounting slightly older stock i.e 70% off but then its what you can find on the day...
