  1. Sweet deal man! You said it was a good job, but I didn't realzie it was that good. With that schedule you'll have plenty of time for "extra-curricular" activities.
  2. There are plenty of cowboys left in the US. They probably aren't too busy driving cattle across the plains for months at a time though. Anyone actually interested in Cowboys should read Lonesome Dove . Really a great novel about cowboys and long gone days.
  3. Well a chocolate bar still costs the same in USD. ...maybe. barok?
  4. Someone forgot to tell the USD. Official exchange rate: 1 USD = 107.5 JPY Travelex's exchange rate: 1 USD = 97.6 JPY (My money is in USD)
  5. I guess I would be Anton. Quote: Originally posted by d=(^o^)=b: dunno, never actually seen it. saw a dvd lying around recently so i might take a peek. Sorry man, that's gone. But you should still check it out.
  6. LA to NYC nonstop takes about 5 hours and right now is about $225.

  8. Passion... Smile... Friend... GATEBALL!! Looks a lot like croquet, doesn't it?
  9. Tokyo --> Denver, but it is turning out to be a bit more for airfare than I had anticipated. It would be 55,000 if I didn't mind flying Narita --> San Francisco --> Mineapolis --> Denver. But I try to avoid 19 hour flights at all costs.
  10. Finnish I believe. (2nd time I've typed finnish - ooh, 3rd - in 2 days)
  11. How much does the ebay corporation make if someone uses their site to sell a 100 million dollar jet?
  12. It is way cheaper by sea if you use the postal system. In my experience it take around 10 weeks to Seattle.
  13. Quick explanation of a personal home network firewall: Data travels in and out from your computer to the interent via your DSL/Cable modem. When data comes or goes it has an address attached to it so that it knows where to go. The address is made up of the IP (to your computer if it is coming in) and a port. The port tells it where to go once it gets to your computer. For example, http or web addresses use port 80 and file transfer protocol (ftp) uses port 21. What a firewall does can best be described as a gatekeeper of the ports. There are thousands of ports, but picture a little guy
  14. Quote: Originally posted by RayInJapan: How many folks here actually carry shovels, saws etc and then dig snow pits before their runs? The ones that are the least likely to be caught in avalanches. You would be surprised by the lengths that educated people go to to ensure their safety. While going to the extent of doing a rutshcblock may seem like overkill for just one run dropping over "the backside" if other signs point to danger or if you are in a particularly susceptible place it is worth it.
  15. Hate to say it, but I think most places will be about done the middle of March this year. Just not enough snowpack and the weather is warming up quite a bit already. It has definitely been an all around below average season for Japan.
  16. Thanks guys. Regarding lodging, Are there places to stay right at Naeba? Also, I have heard conflicting reports on whether or not you can stay at Snodecks. Is this a bar/restaurant only? A quick scan of their website found nothing about lodging.
  17. They are snowave/skijapan/niseko chalets folks. All the same company. They specialize in bringing Aussies to Niseko. (but I would use these chaps)
  18. I saw it yesterday and really enjoyed it. It certainly lived up to my expectations as a great movie and a great series. Quote: Originally posted by Mr.Sparkle (elsewhere): I also thought that the series as a whole relied too much on the plot device where odds stack up against the protagonists to a point that it seems theres no hope, then out of nowhere someone or something saves the day... Agreed Quote: Originally posted by Mr.Sparkle (elsewhere): (Jackson did a great job) to pull together a legendary story with a huge following, on film, and not have legions of LOTR nerd
  19. Sorry for my general lack of knowledge about Southern Niigata resorts, but is there a place to stay that is comparable to Snowbeds in Hakuba or the Hirafu Chalet in Niseko? Some kind of under 3000 Yen a night for a bunk in a place with a cool vibe. How close is everything there? Does it feel like Hakuba with everything within 15 minutes drive or is it a long way from Yuzawa to Naeba to Kagura? Is that entire area known as Yuzawa or is that its own entity. Any other thoughts on the area are appreciated.
  20. I believe you are misquoting me there. I think I was saying I wasn't worried about slides in a particular area although admittedly I didn't know what I was talking about then.
