  1. Hakuba 47 for the variety, park, and ease Nozawa for the crazy powder days Cortina for something or whatever
  2. I will bring the details when I get `em I have been to Yanaba, and had fun, but I like the 47 park way better than Yanaba - Yanaba has a bigger variety of features - curved rails, video worthy rails, waves, and gapped-out kickers, but Hakuba`s park is simply better maintained, and the jumps are bigger. I hate rutted out kickers with a passion, and there are simply too many of them at Yanaba.
  3. Anyone ever been - It is supposed to have the best board park in Japan. I checked out the reviews, but they were from people who were mostly riding the courses, not hiking, or riding the board park. I really want to check it out, as the video page on their screen has a few movies that put the board park in a pretty good light . . . anyone ? anyone ?
  4. 7, yep 7 - will probably go to Ishiuchi Mayuyama, as it is reported to have the best board park in Japan - anyone ever been there ? Their webiste has some great, but poorly edited movies on it.
  5. Thanks for the info - although all of y`all`s direx when put together are a little confuzled I get the jist of it. . My employer said I need it because one of her employees had to leave for a funeral before he started working for her, but after he quit his last job, didn`t have a re-entry permit, and couldn`t get back in, or something. I dunno . . . I`ll let you know how it all turns out.
  6. great show - watched all of season 1. Keifer is a great actor.
  7. yep - when I am happy or at ease, doin' housework kinda times - habit I picked up from my mother
  8. It's not the students or the lessons that get me down, it's the management, and the way that the companies treat their employees, but there are many websites complaining about the big English companies here in Japan, so I won't spout. I think that overall, in my case, teaching English for a lame company, has allowed me to do what I want. They pay you enough to do what you want to, and still pay your bills back home, or save money or whatever. And I always think about the surfer-chick movie "Blue Crush," where the girls work completely lame jobs in order to support their surfing habit.
  9. So yeah, I'm not going anywhere, but I need to get a re-entry permit for my next job (sketchy ?). But in any case . . . 1) where do I get one ? 2) how long does it take ? 3) any freaky idiosynchrasies associated with this proceedure, the way there is with so many proceedures ? thanks, BR
  10. Alas as my topic creeps down to the bottom of the front page, I am obliged to her to bring her back up. . . Thanks for all of the props people, much appreciated. The Japanese folks whom I have talked to were also pretty stoked about the article. To answer some questions: zaccery - I can fit it all in, because I don't have a girlfriend. I want to find a girl who snowboards, but it's a little tricky when I wear an orange coat and a big dorky helmet. Ocean11 - As for waves - I ride them two ways - The first way is fast - I try not to jump, just to stay on the ground - If
  11. great topic fear is great and I like to crash. . . There have been two times this season, when I was genuinely afraid. On the road from Nagano to Hakuba there is a childrens playground with a covered slide. You have to climb up onto the top of the slide cover. stand on your board at a 90 degree angle, then jump onto the slide cover (there is a small picture of this feature at the bottom of my members page). The fall is about 10 feet onto flat earth. Both times I got ready to do this, I was shaking all over, and my heart was pounding. There was nothing to base my slide o
  12. The best park in Japan is supposed to be somewhere in Niigata - I will be checking it out very soon - as soon as I move in up there and figure out where it is. I am definately curious because I would have thought I would have heard alot more about it by now.
  13. yeah it does remind me of many a powder day - that first picture is incredible. but yeah - get up high enough and there is still PLENTY of powder all.
  14. It's a slushfest - I love slush - so it's cool by me, but I just hope you like slush.
  15. drove to Hakuba this morning - All the way it was raining hard, so we were praying for snow all of the way up. But no dice - raining all over Hakuba. drove home.
  16. This is from the Zao death thread - seems like some people missed it. Morbid, but here's what NoFakie and I came up with Tokagushi chair fall Zao machine death Hakuba big kicker death Jeff Anderson Craig Kelly and the people he was guiding in Revelstoke Another crew killed in Revelstoke a week after Kelly and crew -- Most of Craig Kelly's party were on skis. He was on a split board. According to their website, that company (Selkirk Mountain Experience IIRC) doesn't allow boarders to ascend by snowshoes on their tours. The second Glacier Park part
  17. I agree with no avatars when I think about it - they are usually an eyesore, and I'm down with the sly mission, even though I am posting from home.
  18. read yer page - I would have guessed that a kid would not be so interested in turning, at least not until he reaches breakneck speed and needs to turn before he hits something. when I learned to ski, I didn't care about turning, that only came when I got older. I just wanted to have fun and go fast. but all of that said, looking back I wish I had learned better technique when I began. I think I would have progressed faster and been able to navigate the terrain with more speed. But skiing is harder for kids than snowboarding - I have seen little kids blasting off jumps a
  19. and that's too bad considering how much it costs for y'all to get on up. rocked it with OUFreeski today though. good stuff.
  20. Sucks that the ISF went under - lousy Olympic Ski Committee. . .
  21. Fattwins, hasn't anyone ever told you, skiing is an indavidualistic sport ?
  22. I don't think anyone would want my junk - It is completely haggard - pics soon, if anyone can suggest a good free hosting site ?
