  1. Im looking at getting hardboots this year for my splitboard. Climbing in softboots really sucks in ski mode. Im wondering if Alpine Touring boots will fit a snowboard hardboot binding. If so I could get in a bit of carving after work on the same boots as the splitboard. Carving boards look like a heap of fun up here in Sapporo at night when everything sets up icy hard and there are not many people out. Anyone know if ski boots fit into snowboard bindings? Ski bootts seem to have forward lean , Is this a problem for boarding?
  2. A big thumbs up from me. I'd loke to see them learn how to do it in powder. You'd probably need a snorkel, that would look reaaly cool youd just see the top of the snorkel cutting through the snow like a submarine periscope. Yeah baby Yeah!!!
  3. If you havent used skins before Id get the full lenth ones. Sliding back down the hill while your buddies merrilly skin on up can be a very frustrating experience.
  4. Mines 2m 80. The weight differences are negligable unless you are planning multi day epics where evry gram counts as miteyak said. If you are buried deeper than 3m you are pretty much stuffed anyway, the weight would probably crush you.
  5. I used to use my playstation for internet and email but a couple of weeks ago I got a second hand pc. Im pretty sure the windows program is dodgy but it works fine and upgraded itself off the internet. Should I be worried and stop it from contacting gatesville or what? Also I thought a crack was the part of your body that smells nasty after a day on the board but I keep hearing about cracks on kazaa. Whats it all about?
  6. Might be time to clear up some of that space. The big music companies have just decided to start suing the average Joe Citizen. I wonder if they want to check all the cassete tapes and videos I taped off the tv too.
  7. After flipping the U.N. security council the finger a few months ago the talk in the U.S at the moment is all about Getting more international involvement in Iraq. From what I can figure out the international community is supposed to realise what a great idea it was to invade Iraq, admit they should have done the democratic thing and voted for the U.S idea in the first place and pitch in to clean up. I tried it with my flatmates last weekend. They begged me not to hold a massive all night party in the house but I did it anyway. I thought that after seeing what a great party it was they wou
  8. Mr Matthews is right on track. Lack of power for life support machines is a serious problem. Lack of life support machines?
  9. I was just watching CNN and Ive got to say how touched I was at this story of Strength and Courage on the part of the American public. There were several interviews with people whose lives had been shattered by this terrible event. One girl was bravely fighting on despite not having had a hot shower for well over 12 hours. The determined spirit of these people should serve as an example for other countries to follow. Instead of whineing about lack of food medicine and basic human rights these people should look at the brave struggle of the New York citizens under extreme adversity. God Bl
  10. I think we will see a lot more freaky weather in years to come. The only real question is how freaky will it have to get before those of us in rich countries (thats all the ones where people can afford to pay money to slide on snow) will wake up to the fact that if you want to screw nature, nature will screw you with interest. As people who enjoy the mountains we have a special responsibility to pass on whats really happening becase you dont really notice much is wrong from the air condidtioned comfort of your mega car.
  11. I too have been buried as part of avalanche training and can confirm that its heavy, very very dark and super scary. We only had a small amount of snow on top of us. The most amazing thing is the sound. You can here people talking and walking around up top but they cant hear you, even when you are screaming at the top of your voice.
  12. I love the sound of my snowboard! It sounds different all the time. Im really thinking about the sound it makes in the pipe at the moment , especially a nice firm pipe oh yes.... that little scratchy noise it makes just before you leave the lip then the airy silent bit before that full base slap back into the grindy edge resonance into the next wall ooooohhhhhh yeah baby yeah!!!
  13. Your boarding skills are not the most important thing. You need to be able to acurately asess your own ability so you dont end up on something too big for you. You also need to navigate, know about snow conditionsand the weather. Be prepared for emergencies and plan trips carefully. Fitness is also super important.
  14. I thought that with all the posts you guys have done you'd have noticed the off topic section by now! But then again Barok gets into trouble for riding in the wrong place too doesnt he?
  15. Couldnt agree more, stinky, noisy and the absolute best way to start avalanches too!
  16. Its not whether you duck or not its how you play the game that counts. Im talking about attidude. This topic again! Nooooooooooooo!!!!!!
  17. I find that the complete comfort and performance zone comes with a set up at some point and lasts for about 5 minutes. They always seem to be either getting broken in or getting too loose and sloppy. If you talk to any good balerina they'll tell you the same thing about toe shoes but thats another story.
  18. Im all for riding powder and trees. I do it all the time. I also love resorts with good off piste policies. Niseko has been held up as an example here before but the system only works if people follow the guidelines. Certain areas are totally off limits, other places should be entered by gates and occaisionaly the patrol may stop you and politely inquire about where you are going and if you are properly equipped. Everybody is kept happy generally. My point is that if you can't work as a member of a community to get a system going youll loose out in the end. Ocean Ive noticed that you pos
  19. Some of you people have truly lost the plot. Do you really think the patrol is getting on here to get intelligence information about where you idiots are ducking ropes. Now Ive heard it all. I do agree with you Fattwins about not posting your spots on the net for all to see ....but not to escape patrol. I dont know why on earth anyone would cough up thier prime spots so you can show up one day and see the place tracked out. Maybe some people just want more of a pack around to play cops and robbers with the patrol. Too lazy to go backcountry properly and too cool to ride on the marked
  20. As you observed yoursef Danz a crack like this indicates the snow is moving. If it moves slowly its not necessarily a problem but what if it lets go and all slides suddenly? Big trouble. Temperature will probobly be the major factor to watch, sudden warming in these areas should be a warning signal (not the only consideration though!) for anyone riding near slopes showing this kind of snow creeping.
  21. Go back through the forum a few months and check out threads on patrol ect and you'll see that unfortunatly we do have quite a few clowns out there who do very little for the image of forieners on the slopes. Thres no need to name names they are easy to spot.
