Ok pics sorted. SJ#s, could you kindly help to put that thread into the snow section? Thanks. -
Yuzawa Snow Monkeys
SerreChe replied to SerreChe's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Ooops, was supposed to be in the snow section, and cannot see my pics... Ok, gotta figure it out now at least for the pics. -
Having busted my knee on thursday and being unable to hit the slopes this week-end I went out to test my stove and stumbled upon a group of snow monkeys. They kept their distances at first but slowly got closer although always keeping a reasonable distance. The zoom went into action and the results are below. Since it seems there are quite a few monkey addicts on this forum... Enjoy! Notes: The multiple image loader is great! Saves a lot of time and really entices to upload more pics. I also made good use of the ability to shift pics between galleries. In other words, thank

How does a thread become a hot thread?
SerreChe replied to thursday's topic in General off-topic discussions
easy, ask questions that will inflame passions. An example would be: Steve Irwin vs Evil Knievel, who was the better/lesser man? Otherwise I noticed that the gear reviews seem to attract a fair amount of viewings with little postings (I hope we can get more reviews this year) and generally attracts more non jp or oz viewers. Same to a certain extent for the bc threads. Just a gut feeling, but could be wrong. -

ahah, same here, I know what you mean... except that I still have not washed my jacket after xxx seasons. The number of seasons I have not washed my jacket for is... Warning, spoiler! you really thought I was gonna tell you ?! -

I usually get a good coating of happo special ski-lift grease and I am good to go for yet another season. -
Very strange occurence. Sounds like an unfortunate freak accident. I guess Furano may review their un-groomed policy as a result. I would have thought that somebody is more likely to hit a tree than suffocate in heaps of snow on-piste. On my first outing of the season, I fell into tree wells 3 times. I was hiking on my own and not riding and sunk head-up. Once I was stuck up to shoulder levels. Had to take the pack off, use it as buoyancy device to get out. Was annoying but felt in control the whole time. If had been upside down, then would have been a different story I guess.

TR: Tashiro opening
SerreChe replied to tsondaboy's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Nice one, looks like all the pow hounds were on the Kagura side! Looks peaceful with not too many peeps. It is so unusual for Japan to have a resort with a relaxed patrol. So, heaps of snow + relaxed patrol = popular resort. "I am now on my couch posting this TR and my whole body hurts! Thats probably a sign that I did well yesterday." Nah, just a sign you're getting old ! -

the 07/08 Kagura stuff
SerreChe replied to tsondaboy's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Tsonda, I should be there around that time although no specific plans as of yet. Thanks for the invite, I love haks and used to go there a lot, but to be honest, after having tasted the convenience of Yuzawa and given that a kid has been thrown into the equation, I cannot see myself going back there soon. I know somebody who lives in haks and is a bc addict and am thinking to visit him to hit the bc sometimes, but sooooo far from Tokyo. Will you be staying at FT's place? -

SerreChe replied to tsondaboy's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Tsonda, not this w/e for me. Got the outlaws in town, so no boarding. I should be full on for the rest of the winter after that. I am actually thinking to go up to hokkaido for the holidays but probably will end-up going to Yuzawa. More resorts should be opening up around mid dec as well so hopefully less concentration on a few resorts. Think Kagura just got another 40-50cm up top today. This w/e should be fun. Hope you get there early . Enjoy! -
cool snow related thangs

My new goggles with the fan. I am mister fog-up, and after all these years I can finally see where I am going! Really helps my riding. The noise sounds like I have amosquito buzzing my head but I do not mind that trade-off for some visibility.
