  1. I tried crosscountry skiing for the first time today at the Snowharp 1998 Nagano winter olympic trails. It was fun! I wondered how much I could go but once you start skiing, no worry to ski backward on an uphill - you can't do that because the back of crosscountry ski is uneven, you can never ski backward - I didn't know that! I planed to ski round and round just in front of the main building there but I did the hardest course ( 5kms ) all the way in a half an hour by just walking. It never looked like I skiied, I'm sure lol..... 2 crosscountry skiing players overtook me, they must b

People tell me Ueno is a bit inconvenient to change train from Keisei line to Yamanote line and opposite because Keisei Ueno and JR Ueno station are a bit far apart. So usually people seem to change train at Nippori ( 1 station before Ueno if it's from Narita ). Yamanote line is a loop line, you will reach Shinjuku whichever (Sotomawari : driven clockwise or Uchimawari : driven counterclockwise ) you take. I think Uchi

  4. Frannyo, This '-yaro' thing is usually used when someone speaks ill of someone else who is a male. Baka-yaro Kono-yaro Yaro-domo (Hey guys - with kinda "looking down" feeling) In most case as you feel it's not a good meanings at all.
  5. Pitted in for half an hour from 22:10 to 22:40 approximately. Met a lot incl. sunrise, slow, me jane, tsondaboy, Toque, Fattwins, sock_monkey, sava, TJ_oz , eskimobasecamp etc which is good. Hopefully could stay longer but I needed to back home to work.
  6. Depends on who the other is / what the other does. While the other does not hurt my pride, I try to stay nice and control myself as much as possible. But if the other did, no idea what I do. Unfortunately nothing nice would be created by that kind of behavior though.
  7. Boardbaka : Every Wednesday for men, every Friday for women. But if they are national holidays, perhaps it's exceptional then.

  9. ....You don't remember where you put something. ....You find a lot hair fallen out when you shampoo. ....You can not read small letters in dictionaries, brochures etc.
  10. Went to Sun-Alpine ski slope yesterday with guests from Oz. It was Wednesday (Mens' day ; ski pass 3,900yen --> 2,100 yen), so I expected a lot more people would be there but comfortably quiet. Looks like slopes are all for us maybe because we got there 8 a.m. I gave the guests from Oz a notice that an old man can never wait for others for long if they were late on time when the old man is going to play! So the young guests from Oz were already there when I went out. I'm a skier so just go where snow is groomed, but they are "YOUNG" snowboarders (almo
  11. A whiteout, today's new word for me. Thanks If there's a word 'white-OUT', is there a word 'white-IN' and if yes, what does it mean? My dictionaries don't have both. It was all of sudden, so while you see some snow walls at both side of the road you are driving on, you need to know it may come out suddenly. Though I have lived in Hakuba over 16 years I have never had this scary experience before. Maybe because we got so much snow this season which has made bigger snow walls at both side of roads. Snow at the top of the walls gets in the air when strong wind blows.
  12. When you drive your car in any snowy place and if suddenly strong wind blows, nothing is visible and you never know which side of the road you are driving! - almost no control at all. I had a scary experience the other day on my way back home from Omachi city. It was really windy but visibility was okay. But then strong wind suddenly blew and I saw nothing - just white all over. I found my car almost at the center of the road though I was confident that I kept driving left. What if a big truck did the same at the opposite lane! Be careful, everyone!
  13. Big jeans or loose troucers which are never tight. Rugger shirts or t-shirts whatever fit me

  15. 5 fingers socks first Then other socks if needed. Usually I wear some pairs of socks when I go to ski. It really depends on how cold it is.
  16. Hahaha what a moment you took, bad buddy!
  17. Hum....if you can not walk for 2 minutes Markie, you can not ski/snowboard for entire day Don't be that lazy, mate or you will have a beer barrel belly when you will be an oyaji!
  18. Carpenters CD at the mo which I found in a shop today. Their songs worked to improve my English pronounciation. Do you listen to any J-songs and do they work to improve your Japanese? I think listening to songs and following them by singing together works really good because you are to sing same songs over and over which you usually do in some language school.
  19. Good job, soubriquet! I hope you all had a good time and your kids could put a great remembrance in their heart which they would never forget.
  20. Bushpig, I think "smart" is not a Japanese word. It's a 'borrowed' word if I can say. So, I think the latter way ( English way of saying the Japanese word "smart" ) is not what Svetik wanted to know.... And if some word is a 'borrowed' word, a lot often it could mean different thing from original meanings as 'smart' does. e.g. hips -- when Japanese say 'hips' talking in Japanese, it usually means 'butts', I guess. So when English speaking people say 'hips', it's hard for me to understand which part of our body. My dictionaries don't have any pictures for it.
  21. Yeah, as Mainoumi got another some cms height to get qualified, maybe extensions could be okay? I am not sure, just checked Sumo association web site but could not find anything about it. You can check the site to make it sure. http://www.sumo.or.jp/eng/index.html
  22. Quote: Originally posted by Markie: the train journey with a beautiful view of the lake just before Hakuba. The three lakes are called Kizakiko Nakatsunako Aokiko (south to north) Don't ask me if the three lakes are all girls. If you got it, you are really good at Japanese, I guess
