  1. Hilux SR5 turbo diesel, indestructible, goes forever, don't see many in Japan .
  2. does au or docomo sell micro sims for Ipad cellular? Do i need to be a resident or do they sell to gaijin on holiday ? Thanks.
  3. Well yeah something like that. Why compete with the crowds at the resorts when with a bit of effort and big dose of humility in respect to avalanche terrain I can ski untracked all day long. I wouldnt call it crosscountry, more controlled skiing in variable backcountry terrain. The rewards are great but so can be the risks, It all depends on your experience. So yes i need wheels.
  4. It would be insane to limit my plans and objectives to resort skiing and public transport.
  5. 96000 jpy = nzd $ 1200 , still within my budget . so not insane.
  6. There is a side country place in niigata which is a favorite of mine and requires a ski out on a golf course. near the joshinetsu xway. any one care to guess ?
  7. Ok, This has probably been done before, so please bear with me. Renting 4wd from Chiotse feb 1 to feb 20 2014. Looking for advice from people who have done this before. What is the best way ? I live in South Island New Zealand and have lots of experience driving in snow and ice. I understand i will looking at app $1500 nzd for the rental. Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  8. One of the things i like about skiing in japan is the lack of sledders. Unlike Canada and the States where the powder gets trashed in a matter of minutes by marauding gangs of sledheads.
  9. Absolutley agree with last two comments. This is season 3 for me in niigata, season 1 rode the lifts, season 2 took my touring gear and and scratched the surface on terrain potential. This winter less lifts, more human powered skiing. Hope the weather cooperates.
  10. What about GST on imported goods. I recently got stung buying goods on line in states. What is the situation in Japan ?
  11. I would like to see what would happen to these guys if they turned up in myoko, nozowa, or hakuba on febuary 8 with no accomodation booked. I stand by my previous post.
  12. I would absolutley book my accomodation in advance, contact the local tourist office of the area where you wish to stay, they will offer you any help you need and handle your accomodation booking. Also you are probably not aware that Febuary 9 is a holiday weekend in Japan and accomodation is extremely difficult to find in some popular areas. So book now!!!
