  1. not sure about the closing dates yet, guess we have to wait for the storm to pass and go from there, will be heaps of digging out to do, mt's been closed for 5 days now
  2. hey no, but they are photos from someone that works there though. And they are expecting at least another half meter today, will be a lot of digging.
  3. Thought id share this with you guys and girls, we have been have a pretty crazy storm here for around the last week, its officially spring now and we have had huge amounts of snow dump on Ruapehu (my local hill) and all around New Zealand, 100's of new season lambs and calves have died from the cold snap, and poor Christchurch is getting hit as well after the huge earthquake there.. Here is some photos from the lifts at Turoa, one of the towers has been damaged but cant be assessed or fixed till the storm passes and everything is closed for the 4th day in a row due to wind...
  4. Yeah I was thinking it was a damn good price, people always go on about Japan being really expensive, from what I have read and this quote I dont think it is. When I was looking at Canada for the same period flights where almost the cost of this whole package and accommodation in Whistler over the xmas new year period almost made me pass out... Our flights were $1745 return, which includes the domestic part.
  5. hey, its 5k each all up for the whole package, what i quoted before was just the Niseko part, on top of what i already mentioned we get return air fairs to Tokyo and then up to Hokkaido, and 4 nights in Tokyo i reckon. woops and dates we leave NZ on xmas eve and arrive in Niseko 28th FUN!!!!! 2nd time out of NZ too and 1st time was this year to Australia
  6. not sure if I can jump on this bandwagon but i'll try any way. Our package is $3000NZD per person for 17 nights in Niseko but that includes airport transfers, 14 Days Niseko All Mountain Lift Passes, accom obviously and brekkie in a lodge, i am happy to have shared facilities to save a few bucks, means you can stay a bit longer!! T - 3.5 months and counting

  8. Boots are so important, I went for some 32's cause they are really good for my paddle feet which don't really fit well into many shoes. I got customer foot beds too which I think make the world of difference, sore feet suck heaps... and I always seem to get them and now not so much with the new boots.
  9. Its pretty freaky to think how many people have died here in NZ this season and just bad luck that it has been mostly till the weekend all in one place. On Saturday a climber died at Whakapapa. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10664664 It can all happened so quickly and my thoughts are definitely with the family's...

  11. Hi guys, I have been learning a bit of Japanese for when I come over end of the year as I would like to be a polite tourist and communicate in Japanese and I love the challenge. My question is about two different phrases, my Lonely Planet says one thing and I have also read a few other meanings, so please can you clarify what the below two phrases mean? O-genki desu ka? Hajime mashite? I have little notes stuck all over my house so everyday I can memorise them he he

  18. Hi everyone, I have booked a holiday from NZ for 3 weeks, we arrive in Tokyo on the 28th and spend 4 nights and then fly up to Hokkaido and go to Niseko for the remaining time, for the whole package, flights, transfers all accommodation, breakfast and lift tickets it was only 5k each, I don't think that's really that expensive compared to the price Whistler was going to cost us, way more than double that...
  19. Cardrona is one of my fav fields in NZ, have spent a couple of weeks up there, the mountain is so big and has something for everyone for sure. TC is much steeper and for more advanced people in my opinion.
  20. Fair call, understand. Yip, will have to do a write up when I get home from my trip in Jan2011, long way away tho, maybe I could add some Ruapehu pics, if anyone would be interested? Nice collection of lens, I have a Canon 350D, 10-22 wide angle and 50mm 1.4 think I need a zoom tho...
  21. What camera and lens do you use by the way? Hopefully I can get some great shots like these when I am in Japan Have you heard of Flickr? You photos would be awesome up there. You can sign up for free.
