teaching young kids to ski
Youdy replied to bobby12's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
This is a bit of a life story but probably relevant or maybe even helpful:P I started water skiing when I was 3 years old. My parents took me every weekend with a few friends(of theirs) up until this day, their friends also had children but there was only me and another girl a year older than me who started this young out of about 15-20 kids i think the youngest now is about 12. A few things Ive noticed is that the children around 5-8 years old start to develop a sense of fear so it is alot easier to learn mentally when they are younger having said that its better to not persist all day long b -

I wouldn't bother arguing fang their helmets are blocking their ability to think rationally! but you did just give me a great idea for my case study for uni(psych/law majors) Does wearing a helmet lessen the amount of perceived risk? increasing your chance of participating in dangerous behavior and in turn injury I know the recent studies done by the Canadian ski assoc showed that a greater number of helmet wearers vs non helmet wearers died in skiing/snowboarding related incidents but they didn't mention what type of accidents nor where abouts i.e backcountry/park etc and other impo

my flight arrives late:( so im stuck on the overnight bus if i want to get out early the next day option 1: Is take my case of luggage and snowboard bag with me onto the bus then catch a taxi to the goryu ski field where they have a resting room with lockers?(I couldnt find much info on this) and at the end of the day i catch a taxi to my lodge Or Option 2: I send all my gear except for what i board with on the day via Takkyubin to my lodge and take just what i need on the bus and catch a shuttle bus back to the lodge at the end of the day where hopefully my stuff is waiting:P j

Japan gets some of the best powder on the planet and you'd want to waste it by spending time in a park!!? Especially if you're only here for a short holiday...I really just don't get it. don't get me wrong for pow days ill be out there for -

Glasses. Goggles. Confused.
Youdy replied to PWL's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
I use contacts:) I would try to avoid the optomotrist as much as possible once you know your prescription they generally overcharge alot for goods(especially contact lenses) and go straight to the companys that make the goggles and snow/ski retailers. Search for prescription ski goggles youll get plenty of hits You can get custom made lenses to fit into most goggle frames If your prescription is really high then you will have to get opitcal adaptors(these clip in behind your goggles) you can also get goggles specially made for the adaptors to fit however. -

Watashi wa baka na gaijin! Trying to learn some key phrases in Japanese for my trip to use on the snow already got the basic greetings down:P dunno how they will sound to japanese with my australian accent but anyone know of a website with a guide or just wanna give me the nearest translation of or anything else along these lines Which way to the terrain park? Any cliff drops we can check out? That was steezy! Which run has some nice kickers? When are you gonna come for a ride?
