Popular Post muikabochi 208
It was a very cloudy and dull start to the day, but those clouds started clearing up mid morning and we were left by mid afternoon with very nice clear blue skies. Was wondering where to go, thinking it might be busy today but driving into Yuzawa it was clear that it wasn't that busy at all - so I went to GALA Yuzawa. Yes, I had a GALA day! And no it wasn't busy at all, didn't wait for a lift and the two main quads aside the lifts were probably less than 50% occupancy. The snow was nice with them saying 10-20cm of new snow overnight. Nice views of Yuzawa this afternoon. Did my usual standing around just looking at those beautiful mountains. And trees.

muikabochi 208
Thanks folks. It was a pleasure snapping away! onehunga, that's the top part of the downhill course back down to base. You get there from the North Area of the skijo.
gozaimaas 61
Ive been thinking about ducking out there for a day trip myself. How far is it by train from tokyo?
muikabochi 208
Gala is ultra convenient with its own Shinkansen station close by Echigo Yuzawa station. Fastest from Tokyo is just under 80 minutes. Get off the train, buy a ticket at the counter and walk 50m to the gondola.
muikabochi 208
It might be worth mentioning 2 things: Weekends can be or certainly used to be mad busy. Gala isn't good at all when it's busy. I would definitely make it a weekday place. They were today being very insistent about ducking ropes being a big no-no. Special messages over the speaker every so often in Japanese, English and Chinese.

muikabochi 208
Thanks. The downhill course is actually quite good if there's no-one else getting in the way. Kind of like Nozawa Skyline in a way, in parts. Gets a bit wiggly down in the lower part but some good stretches higher up.
